cold stove league
« on: December 31, 2020, 11:24:35 am »
So far the Phillies offseason has been one of total boredom.
Realmuto situation silence.
Free agent activity - all's quiet on the Phillies front.
Trades (real trades not that junk for junk pitcher deal) nothing.
Only real news hiring of Dombrowski.
LOts of news about not spending money.

Smart play is to take the draft pick for Realmuto.

If we're lucky, JT may decide to take our qualifying offer and give free agency another try next year.

Smart move is to lock up the best catcher in baseball for the foreseeable future at a decent number.

Yes if JT is willing to take a sensible number that's all good.

But what is sensible?

4/80 is the most I'd go.

Qualifying offers were rejected/accepted mid November.

What's to stop him from saying "I'll take that qualifying offer" and us saying "sure"?

Can we drop the Aspergers act for a minute and have a normal conversation?

Whatever the Phillies offered then, they can still offer it now right?

There isn't actually a rule preventing that from happening?

Can you drop the act where you pretend to know everything?

He's not signing for 1/18.

We haven't even made an offer yet.  And other teams have apparently scoffed at JT's absurd demands.

Our new GM, who has impeccable credentials, appears to share my same general view on our "gold glove silver slugger" catcher.

And it's hard to blame it on money given that vaccines have already been approved and live fans at games seems very likely for this year.

JT is simply not as valuable as you guys have made him out to be.  It's OK, you're fans.  Getting things wrong is your raison d'etre.

As we made him out to be? Lol, ok. He's not signing for 1 and 18.

You pretty much just guaranteed that someone will sign him for 1/18.

It's cute when you try to talk baseball.

It's cute when you try and formulate thoughts and opinions.

The time to do that was shortly after we traded for him.  Signing JT is going to take more resources than it’s worth for a catcher approaching 30.  Sign Didi for a few years instead.
