The Phillies have an offer on the table for J.T. Realmuto but the other offers for baseball’s best all-around catcher remain unknown #mysterymarket

I have a question....when teams negotiate w players, do owners know who offered what?  So PHI has offered JT a contract, do the other teams who are interested know how much that offer was so they may offer similar or more?  I'm sure if agents could they would flat out lie about offers for their clients, but I've always wanted to know how negotiations worked in regards to these offers
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Rom 8:31)

Yes, the owners know because they have to pay the salaries. They at times can tell the President and GM a figure amount that they would go to and the haggling by GM's is done. Often a owner will say, you have a certain amount for the entire season on the team to spend and the exact amount of a player's contract may not have to be told to the owner if it is cheaper than market value but owners still basically know every player's contract. And Middleton in particular is very hands on the financial part of the team. McPhail and Klentak couldn't spend a dime without Middleton's approval.

No, no...I must've explained it wrong.  I get that Middleton knows the numbers of what he may/may not pay.  But does he know the numbers of what lets say, Cohen (NYM) will pay?  Hypothetically, if Cohen came for Realmuto and offered a contract to Realmuto....would the Phillies brass know what that figure is, so they could either match or make a better offer?  If they do know...how did they find out?  Do agents tell GMs, "look Cohen has offered $10 for Realmuto and we're considering it".  Or does MLB have some sort of database w the $10 offer available to EVERY team to see?

That's a horse of a different color. Middleton may or may not know how much Cohen offered say a Realmuto. And the GM's (Fuld) may or may not know what Realmuto was offered. Realmuto's agent could tell the truth or lie to get Realmuto the top offer and dollar deal possible. He may come back to Fuld the GM and say, Cohen offered this much and Realmuto would like to stay here if the deal is comparable of better than this deal. But no one knows for sure including the owner or the GM's unless they are totally honest with each other. And that is doubtful.
