Doug getting a lot of interest for offensive coordinator gigs
« on: January 17, 2021, 03:05:41 pm »
So much for the narrative of him being a bum play caller.

I get why teams are reluctant to give him a head coaching gig.  The "appearance" of Doug's players being angry at him during the Skins game, even though it's probably 100% untrue, is enough to dissuade teams from immediately offering him another head coaching job.

Plus it probably doesn't sit well with most owners and GMs that Doug wasn't willing to play ball with Lurie on Wentz.

C'mon Kruk, coaches always get interest.  How many jobs have Norv Turner, Marty Schottenheimer, Wade Phillips, Mike Shanahan gone through to name a few?  Even that raggedy @$$ Chip Kelly got another shot.  Rarely does a NFL coach get fired and never rehired again at some point.  Even your boy Marty Morningwey has had multiple job opportunities.  Re-treads...thats what the NFL is.

Hollow, we now know why Doug was fired.

Normally when a coach get canned in Philly, hit piece after hit piece is put out on him to justify the firing.

But with Doug the truth was too apparent to hide.  He was fired cause Carson was a diva behind closed doors.  Fired cause Lurie wanted Doug to tell him that he had a plan to make Carson our franchise QB again.

All that nonsense about players lashing out at him during the Skins game was just that, nonsense.  Hurts was probably legit upset, but we now know Doug lost his job standing up for Hurts in his meetings with Lurie.

Im not disputing any of that, my point is that coaches almost ALWAYS get rehired eventually regardless of the reason they left their previous assignment.  So to say that this team or that team has interest in Doug, isn't saying much because thats normal.  Shoot, he won a SB, you'd think he would get some interest right?

I think Doug's refusal to play ball with Lurie on Wentz is gonna hurt his chances at getting a head coaching offer.

It's sad, but sometimes you gotta lie and tell people what they want to hear to make it in life.

Doug was twice given that chance with Lurie and twice he looked Jeffery in the eye and said "sorry man, Hurts is just better" lol!

Lol right because he’s the first head coach to ever have an opinion.  Smh.......

Was it actually made clear that the Wentz/Hurts decision was the issue? There was an equal amount of speculation that it was because they wouldn’t go along with Doug hiring and promoting the coaches he wanted.

This was a unique situation.  A guy our owner just handed 100 million guaranteed too.  A guy our owner made clear he wasn't ready to give up on.

I didn't quite frankly think Doug had it in him to stand up to Lurie on Wentz.  That should tell you how much of a world class prick Carson has been behind the scenes these past few years lol!

I hope our next coach can figure it out with Carson.  As I said, "run run run" has always worked for every QB.

Troy Aikman talked to Doug right after the firing and then came on Michal Irving's show and said that Doug's preference for Hurts is what cost him the job.

And now there are reports of us making it clear that coaching candidates with plans to make Wentz the starter will be giving preference over those that don't.

It actually makes tons of sense in hindsight.  I was just in denial about how cool Lurie would be about eating a massive loss on Carson.

As discussed before- it’s a sunk cost. If hurts is the better option you go with hurts. Keeping both won’t work. Dysfunction abounds

It's easy for us to say that when it's not our 100 million that was flushed down the toilet.

I'm not happy that Lurie made this call, but I understand.

“ A guy our owner just handed 100 million guaranteed too. “

1) Once again, Lurie didn’t give Wentz $100 mil guaranteed in his latest contract.
2) the money that he did give him is a sunk cost an irrelevant.
3) Lurie can actually save some money moving forward by trading away Wentz as then he will no longer be on the hook for the guaranteed base salary amounts

"Sunk Cost" is a nice buzz phrase, but if you've ever taken a big loss with your own money it's a bit more nuanced than just saying "bubye" to your investment.

There might be a way to turn Wentz into something resembling a franchise QB.  Lord knows that's what Howie told Lurie after Howie put two and two together on what Lurie wanted to hear.

I love Doug, but he didn't take the hint.  Even after Lurie gave him a second interview.

No, it’s not a buzz word.  It’s a very real and factual thing.  Is it a psychological hurdle to get over?  Sure.  But if you want to be a successful business owner then you better be able to.
