Looks like McDaniels is our guy

Duce was my #1 choice, but McDaniel is definitely an intriguing option.

After firing Chip we went with his antithesis, now we're sort of doing the same thing in the opposite direction.

This could result in some really good short term results, and if McDaniels's emotional intelligence has improved even slightly since his failed Denver gig, this might work out long term as well.

One thing we know about Josh is that he schemes to his talent.  So we're not dealing with another Chip Kelly here as far as offensive philosophy.

His people skills were non-existent in Denver, but failure and time tends to mellow people out.

Thing to keep in mind here is that we're also getting a new defensive coordinator.  Schwartz simply put was already "figured out" when we hired him.  At no point in time did our defense under Schwartz confuse opposing offenses, which is kind of the point when it comes to play calling.  It's hard to believe we can do worse than Gym Shorts.

And of course we got our new draft guru, who like McDaniel comes to Philly with a reputation for being a pain in the @ss to deal with.

One thing is for sure, the post-Chip kumbaya era is over.  Lurie 2.0 isn't content just sitting back and smiling.  Dorsey is gonna change the culture of our front office.  McDaniels is gonna change the culture of our lockerroom.

Buckle up, this has boom or bust written all over it.

So, is Howie going back into the closet at the other end of the building?  If not, then no culture change to the front office IMO.  I watch football but I am not a die hard fan like some of you guys.  Isn't McDaniels the guy that used to be Belicheats OC?

Bringing back Todd Bowles.

As HC or DC?

Bringing back Todd Bowles.

I don't know enough about him other than the one year we had him as our DC.  He didn't seem vocal as an EAgle, nor did I see great play calling.  Maybe he's a great choice, I just don't have enough information to work with.

When I see stuff like this, my confidence in McDaniels only increases.

There's real potential for a McDaniels tenure to crash and burn, especially with Wentz/Hurts/Lurie dynamic now baked into the equation.

But you are getting a legit offensive genius in him.  And I have to believe he's learned something after his failure in Denver.

It's a potential problem, especially if we get off to an 0-3 start next season with Wentz under center and Hurts still holding a clipboard.

But I get the thinking here.

If anyone can make it work, and make it work quickly with Wentz, it's McDaniels.  Doug's great at scheming to his talent, but apparently failed at getting through to Wentz.

Josh won't be as nice with Carson.  If Wentz ignores him like he did Doug, I'm confident that Josh will bench him before week 1.

That kind of tough love is probably what Ginger Jesus needs right now.

funny, i thought doug was ok at scheming to foles and maybe hurts- with wentz i thought he magnified his negative traits and minimized what he did well. but as time goes on a lot comes out about wentz' attitude that isn't very positive. so who knows if it was doug or carson.

Doug is great at scheming to his talent.  Foles looked amazing with him.  Hurts, as a 22 year old rookie playing with a bunch of slop, looked amazing as well.  Which is why I wanted to give up on Wentz and keep Doug and Hurts.

But Lurie REALLY wants to make it work with Wentz.  McDaniels is the "bad cop" version of Doug.  The guy who won't let Carson flippantly dismiss advice that is given to him in the film room.  And hopefully the guy who will bench Wentz quickly if he stinks up the joint again next season.

That's my biggest fear, punting away another season hoping that Ginger Jesus can actually walk on water.

i believe next season will be "punted away" regardless of qb. i don't share your optimism that this team would have won a super bowl with doug. we have glaring weaknesses at too many spots and very few true strengths. even slay was very underwhelming. he was good, but certainly not a star.

Doug proved to us in 2017 that all he really needs to win a title is a quality Oline.

I do hold it against Doug that he stuck it out with Peters at LT as long as he did.  And that he chose to put Seumalo back at LG with Kelce still playing center.

There was NO reason why the Eagles should have broken up that Oline they had in the SB.

But with Peters effectively gone and Kelce likely to retire, I see our Oline being great again in 2021.

His claim to fame was the ability to win with the GOAT @ QB.   Reminds me of Gase.  Was great when he 'coached' Peyton Manning.    We'll see but he wouldn't be my choice.

He did some impressive stuff with Matt Cassell.  As well as Garrapollo and Brissett when those two were NFL puppies.

My first choice would have been to keep Doug and make Wentz EARN his spot back.  My second choice is honestly.  Duce has the lockerroom's respect.  As well as advanced knowledge of what we already have (and what we really need).

And I'd be shocked if Duce of all people didn't have us running the ball all game long.  Which is really how we won our title in 2017.

But as far as hail mary plays to salvage Wentz, McDaniels makes sense.
