Chicken Pad Thai
« on: February 07, 2020, 02:11:23 pm »
Tried this for the very first time today (PF CHANGs)....it was spicy, but it was delicious.  I've been missing out for a long time.  Thai, Japanese, Caribbean, Indian, African cuisine...never really tried any.  But thats gonna change this year.  I plan on trying new cuisines all this year.  Already went vegan for January and that was interesting.  They have vegan everything, but you certainly can tell the difference between tofu "meat" and real meat...  Next up are Jamaican Beef Patties...yeah, yeah, I know.  Just never had the cojones to try them or any Carribean food outside of Curry Chicken.....

I liked the Pad Thai, will try something different the next time.  Philly is known for restaurants and food, do I plan on trying as much as I can.  What type of meat does Indian dishes use mostly...chicken, beef, pork, or seafood?  Or are they more vegetable based?  What dish would you recommend?

My favorite Indian dish is Chicken Tikka Masala I get it as spicy as they’ll make it but you can get it mild too if that’s what you like.  tikka masala is a dish of chunks of roasted marinated chicken in a spiced curry sauce. The sauce is usually creamy and tomato based. Get it over Basmati rice and get a side of garlic naan (Indian bread) and dip it in the sauce it’s amazing!

I've been doing Asian food almost every day for the past few years.  Pad thai is one of my favorites.  Next time you get it ask for the spice rack and put some pickled peppers in it.

And definitely give drunken noodles with beef a try.

I seen the drunken noodles dish, but went w the pad thai.  I like a tiny bit of spice (heat)...I can't take anything to spicy though

The pickled peppers from the spice rack aren't too bad.  I love spice but for some reason cayenne pepper is messing me up on the way out.

The stuff you eat in Thai restaurants is way less spicy than what you'd get in a Thai person's house.  Home cooked Thai is like eating battery acid in noodle form.

I try to eat vegetarian whenever possible.  Hard for me to give up my love for Salmon and Halibut however, or my uncured turkey bacon(crisp).  No beef ever anymore.  Same with pork.  When I order pad thai it is now with tofu.   Excellent.  Indian restaurants do have some meat dishes but are known by plant-based diners as “go to” restaurants that usually have a wide variety of plant-based offerings. Indian food is probably the cuisine most associated with vegetarianism. One is the cost of meat in India is high and associated with wealth/luxury.  Another is religion- specifically beef.  Cows are treated almost sacredly by Hindus for many reasons.  Once you know what you are ordering, Indian food is excellent. Palak Paneer and Chole are excellent veg staples on most Indian menus.,

one of the best things about living anywhere halfway cosmopolitan is the expanded cuisine.  yeah, good Thai is really a treat.  harder to find, but also well worth the effort, is a good Vietnamese restaurant.  something fancier than Pho (though lord knows, i used to eat Pho like a teenager and McDonalds.)  maybe a cultural thing, or a result of the rapid exodus of the '70's, but i get the sense that the Vietnamese community tends to be more homogeneous, so you find their restaurants kind of grouped together, while Thai is spread out all over.
And all those who had faith were at the same place and owned all things communally.

Do you live in Phiily Hollow?  We tried authentic Lebanese for the first time and were amazed ( probably a bit stir crazy also).   We got takeout in Fishtown  from Suraya on Frankford Ave.  We had shawarma with tahini,
and Taboule (parsley salad with cucumber, tomato, scallion & mint, seasoned with lemon & pomegranate molasses).

We have to start making Tahini Sauce at home.  Fishtown is just northeast of Center City.
