Colby-Usman was an amazing fight
« on: December 15, 2019, 08:52:42 am »
I haven't watched much UFC since they moved to ESPN, but man last night's fight was amazing.

Two equally matched and genuinely talented fighters who genuinely hate each other.

Colby definitely had a good showing, but his lack of technical refinement in the stand up did him in.  Even early on when he was throwing way more punches than Usman, you could tell Usman's were hurting him more.

I'm a bit surprised this never went to the ground.  Usually a fight between guys like this goes to the ground by the 5th round.  These guys hated each other so much that they let it becomes a straight up kick boxing match.

A rematch is definitely in order.  Colby earned it.  The stoppage was probably too early, and Colby might have snuck his way to a split decision loss had the ref not stopped it (one judge had Colby up 3-1 heading into the 5th).

I heard it was good.  I'm just getting on board w MMA & UFC.  Really just learning who is who.  I know some of them like Jon Jones, McGregor, Coutur, Cormier, Silva, Amanda Nunes but thats about it
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Rom 8:31)

Champs don't stay champs long and top fighters barely average a fight per year once they become a recognized name.

Unless you're a hard core fan it's gonna be next to impossible to know most of the fighters on a prime time card.

My brother is into it and he tries to school me on who is who and who can really fight.  Ive seen Cyborg fight once and mannnnnnn, can't nobody tell me she's not on the juice.

Cyborg got caught juicing a few times already.  She's kind of old now.

The Diaz brothers keep saying that EVERYONE in MMA is on PEDs, and part of me believes them.  We as fans tend to have a naive view on this issue.

If they are all using, who cares?  There's no real advantage then.

Yes and no.  Not all PEDs are the same, and certainly the timing and dosage matters.

It's a cut throat industry that one shouldn't go into unless they really have no other path to financial success.

I've been watching it since the Pancreas days.  Back when Japan was the center of MMA, the production was IMO much better.  The US based MMA promotions seem cold and distant, even when they do shows overseas.
