Title: Tyson - Jones Jr
Post by: HollowHustla on August 21, 2020, 01:45:28 pm
First let me say, I would never condone these two old @ss men to go BACK into a ring for exhibition, charity, or any other reason.  With that being said, Roy Jones Jr looked so bad over his last several fights that I'm sincerely worried Mike Tyson could harm him.  Yeah, I know theyre suppose to be head protector and what not, but Mike is vicious.  Ive seen his training videos and unlike Ben Simmons summer videos, I actually believe Mike could hurt someone at his age.  Now, I'm reading Golden Boy, Oscar D wants back in at 47yrs old.   What is wrong w this cats?  All the money, all the fame, family, friends, and not to mention they survived a brutal sport & walked away w all their faculties....yet you wanna still be a gladiator instead of enjoying your grandkids somewhere.  Sheesh....

Mike Tyson said he is Iron Mike...and not an old nobody. He hates who he isn't anymore. So he's chasing his past...He isn't going into this fight without a killer's mentality. RJJ, better do some heavy praying.

If RJJ looks anywhere near what he looked like during his last few fights, we all better pray for him.  Mike is vicious, and only knows one way to fight...rip a mofo apart!  Now w that being said...it’s for exhibition, so maybe there are procedures or things in place to prevent anyone from being seriously injured.  I hope so at least...

Rules probably won't matter to Mike in this situation once the adrenaline kicks in.  I think he will be so caught up in the moment, that he will probably knock Roy the hell out.  I'd kind of love to see it happen, but pray that Roy will be just fine afterwards.

100% agreed Hollow.  Even at his old age, I’m sure Tyson can still hit plenty hard.  And Roy has NO chin anymore and had some pretty bad looking KO’s at the end of his career by guys who I’m quite certain don’t hit as hard as Mike.

Hopefully Tyson takes some off his punches.  And hopefully they are wearing at LEAST 16 oz gloves if not 18 oz. Don’t need anyone getting hurt.

Apollo and Drago was also supposed to be an exhibition. That means nothing.

On another note hoping Manny P caves in MacGregors face.

All depends on if Manny wants to carry McGregor like Mayweather did to let the fans at least watch a good number of rounds.  Or if he just wants to make quick work of him.  Manny has a stronger offensive arsenal than Mayweather. In reality, this is so stupid.  A waste of a fight.  BUT, I do take enjoyment watching that cocky mfer get beat.

Money grab...only reason.  I do like the strut though...

Yup absolutely.  McGregor will make more money getting his a$$ kicked in a boxing match than he has in his entire career in the UFC.  And Pacquiao gets a huge pay day for the easiest fight of his career.   Same thing as what happened in the Mayweather McGregor fight.

Mayweather made $275 million and McGregor $85 million.  Insane.

Well what a waste of time that was.  Tyson and Jones hug each other while grunting for 8 rounds while some male Paris Hilton beats the stuffing out of Nate Robinson?

I'm not watching one of these ever again unless Jahlil Okafor is on the card.  That dude knows how to put on an entertaining fight.

Heck no.  They got the Internet for a reason.

Even for free, that was a waste of time.  Roy was just holding on for dear life until the final bell rang.

Mike knew he could literally kill Roy at any moment but chose to spare his life.

I had no idea before the fight that one rule in the Tyson/Jones match was literally "NO knockouts". What a joke! Surprised Tyson was able to refrain from doing such a thing.

A lot of body blows and hugging.  It’s normally how exhibitions are though...no KOs, no scoring, no judges.  Reminds me of those celebrity matchups...😂😂😂.  It was going to be called a draw as long as they both were able to go the distance.  Now, they can set suckers up for another PPV w actual scoring...😉

I mean, were you expecting anything different?  It was an exhibition match between 2 guys in their 50s.  Of course it wasn’t going to be a real match.

For Robinson’s sake, I hope he made enough to cover the medical bills.

I read they each got $600K for that fight...minimum.  Prolly got a little more after the PPV money is divided up.

Well thank goodness then.  Because their purse amount was only $600.    $100 per round, which is the legal minimum amount.   Didn’t realize they were expecting that much of the PPV money

That purse of $600 was actually $600K, it was written wrong.  I just looked it up again and it says Nate made about $500K and it should increase to $750K

With the weights being relatively equal and Mike being in his 50s, I figure Roy would allow for some meaningful exchanges.

Mike "looked" like something resembling his former self.  Roy looked like someone who was there to steal some money and leave.

Considering the devastating KOs Jones suffered over the last 15 years, I’m thinking his mindset was to avoid getting hit as much as possible.

Brain damage is part of the product.

Floyd Mayweather had to play the roll of Supreme Troller Extraordinaire to get his fights to sell.  Otherwise the fights themselves bored the masses.

Anyone looking to make a buck off of boxing has to accept that brain damage will happen.

I'm not talking about taking punishment.  Jones was getting knocked out cold by light heavyweights who aren't known for their KO power.  Getting KO'd from shots that shouldn't be knocking someone out.  And this was back when he was still actually boxing.

It's my understanding that repetitive blows are more damaging than one time KOs.

The science is not yet settled, but that's the direction it was trending last I checked.  And it's why Dana White insists that MMA is safer than boxing and even football.

Yes, this is one of the reasons MMA is safer.  Bare knuckle boxing is also back fwiw. (See Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship) https://www.bareknuckle.tv/

Again, my point was in regards to why Roy would have been on his bike for the entire exhibition match with Tyson.    He has no chin, as evidenced by him getting KO'd and stopped in situations that should not result in KOs or stoppages.  So yeah, even though it was an exhibition match, if I was him I woulda been on the move the entire time too.
