thanks for the well thought out post.
i get what youre saying about turner, but dont think its totally true. he's had playoff success before for one.
as far as miller, i dont think he ready right now. i dont even know if he'd be ready mid season. with my comment about him playing 3rd, it was about moving bohm more then anything. when he was drafted, many thought he'd move to 3rd. so far, he's staying at short and seems to be ok there. stott i think stays at 2nd. he will earn a gold glove there at some point (and should be in the running this year, though him platooning as much may keep him out).
schwarber has proven he is a very capable leadoff hitter. if you want someone else leading off, you need to find someone. dont tell me schwarber isnt a good leadoff hitter though, its been proven that not only is he a good leadoff hitter, he's one of the better ones in the league. no one on this current team would come close to being as successful as him leading off.
i dont think turner is moveable. you can move him to the outfield and he will be a plus defender and a plus bat. will you be happy with his contract, probably not, but he will be very succesful for years to come.
the rotation, i agree, pitched just fine and i think miller will be part of it next year (though i fully expect an innings limit).
Everyone should know by now that JoeDirt and SimpleJack have their issues on this site with each other and will both rip each other, but this is a good baseball thread, and we should stick to it. Everyone should offer their opinion for good discussion purposes. If you all still want to rip on SimpleJack, be my guest lol, but still add good baseball discussion. Well, that's all I have to say about that...
Anyway, I do understand what you are saying about Turner and his playoff success. I just haven't really seen enough of it with the Phillies..yet.
I would guess, he probably isn't moveable as you say. I think he would be fine as an OF, but I think he has to be put there asap. I just wonder if the Phillies get Soto, which I doubt will happen... not saying impossible. Just doubt it...Where is Turner playing if they get Soto? I guess we are going to finally move NC at this point. I get that people see that NC came through a bit more this year, but this team needs change... NC would be my guess as first to go. So, is Turner the RF? LF would be Soto and CF is Marsh?
To be fair, as 1 of Marsh's biggest fans on this site.. I wasn't happy with him this season. I also was not the biggest fan of Rojas, and I am disappointed in both. If we somehow keep NC, I guess Turner can be the everyday LF. Just don't know who is playing SS then at that point if Miller isn't ready. If he isn't ready...don't know how quick you are to move Turner to the OF. I wonder if it is just best to pick Marsh or Rojas and move 1 of them.
Man, it seems like 1 of the Phillies biggest issues, is having a lot of parts it seems, that just don't seem to fit. Lot of square pegs in round holes kind of thing. DD needs to address this and make a more rounded team.
Part of why I am saying what I said, is because of someone like KS. Now I do agree with you, he is NOT a bad leadoff hitter. He just isn't who I think should have been the leadoff guy on this particular team. I think he was great for regular season baseball, but when it gets to the playoffs...the team needed some runs at a time. Not just 1 solo shot. Basically, I just think the Phillies would be better if they had a guy at the top of the lineup who was better at getting on base, batting a consistent 300 and having KS hitting 4th or 5th in the lineup where he had more chances to bat with men on base.
The reason this team isn't more rounded, again, is because of someone like KS being your leadoff hitter. How many times do teams with a KS win WS? That's what this team should be doing but they aren't. KS is 1 of the reasons they aren't winning WS. I am not saying it is HIS fault. It's the team itself. It is poorly constructed in my opinion when it comes to playoff baseball. Again, DD needs to do some heavy tinkering and moving parts around.
I think the rotation will be fine with or without Ranger, and Painter will be the boost to the rotation they are hoping for.
I think Hoffman earned a spot and a new contract. Don't know if he gets it here for sure just yet.
I think a lot needs to be done, and I think Middleton will have a big say in it going forward.
