SHAYOK HAS TO DO BETTER
« on: January 21, 2020, 10:11:53 am »
SHAYOK HAD 7 TURNOVERs YESTERDAY IN A VICTORY OVER THE LAKERS. THE BLUECOATS HAD A 33 POINT LEAD IN Q3,BUT NOT ONLY DID THEY ALMOST BLOW THTA BIG LEAD,BUT LOST Q3.. THE BLUECOATS EVENTUALLY WON BY 10 POINTS AND SHAYOK SCORED 29 POINTS,BUT YOU CAN NOT COMMIT 7 TURNOVER,BUT SHAYOK DID. He is averaging 3.5 turnovers per game which is too much and is only a plus 1.2 for the season in 20 games. He has missed 4 games this season. His defense is questionable. His best asset is offense since he seems to be able to get to any position off the court he wants. He scores in different ways, but he has to learn to protect the ball better.

Zaire Smith still has not excelled in one game this season. His shooting form is much better, but his defense is not as good as advertised. When we first drafted Smith Brett Brown mentioned his name with Kawhi Leonard. At some point you have to dominate one G league game.In the victory against the Lakers Smith was 5-12,but 4-8 from Happyland with 5 HACKSAWS.He is averaging 13.3 points per game with a 3 point shooting  percentage of 36.6 and a plus ratio of 1,6. He only averages 1.1 free throws a game which means he never gets to the foul line.

After watching my 24th G league game it is understandable why the 76ers don't bring up Shayok of Smith.

Back at the ranch, the 76ers don't use Milton,so why not play him at the G league level where he can excel.

I check in to RealGM's page to see how our young guys in Delaware are shooting the ball and occasionally watch a youtube HL tape.  If you say Smith's defense is underwhelming and that Shayok's too sloppy with the turnovers, that means something that can only be seen by watching the games.

Maybe Brett's "mini-me" down in Delaware isn't quite as good at motivating his guys to play D as Brett is.  I'm actually pretty confident that Brett can get Zhaire to excel as a defender.  It's the one tangible talent Brett has.  He can't draw up intelligent defensive scheme, but he can get guys to hustle on defense for him.

Shayok's turnovers probably go down with the off the ball role he's bound to have at the NBA level.  My only question is does he need lots of touches and shots to be an efficient shooter or can he hit them even with very low usage?

I watch the replays all the time, but not an entire game.  Theres little defense played and its a guard dominated game.  It's like watching AAU ball IMO, but more organized.  I watched Isaiah Caanan take over a GLeague game vs DE one day.  Its not good bball, but I watch to see the development of players.

Shayok don't pass the ball, shoots 20 FGAs per game but only avg 23ppg and don't get to the FT line.  He is shooting 37% 3FG though.

Smiths jump shot looks way better.  He's even pulling it off the dribble and taking step backs.  He doesn't shoot it enough IMO, only 10FGAs a game and avg 13ppg.  He's shooting 51% overall and 37% from 3.  The thing about defense is, the GLeague like the NBA is more a team defense thing than mano e mano.  When Khoumadje isn't in the game the defense sucks.  Smith could be a better defender, but he needs to play w better people around him.  He has potential.  He gets his knees taped and Im not sure why, but it looks constricting.

Khoumadje hands need to get better but he blocks everything he can.

Highsmith is a good defender but his offense isn't good.

Munford and Brownridge can both shoot the ball.  Munford is more PG and Brownridge SG, but they both are listed at 6'3, but they are prolly like 6'1.

Connor Johnson is not a good coach and they should hire Dei Lynam as the coach.  She does the games and does a good job analyzes the team.

You can see them for yourself on replay.  They put the replays on the Bluecoat website.

You catch Josh Jackson (currently property of the Grizzlies) in any of these G-league games?  His numbers looked really good last I checked.  And I think he'll be an UFA this offseason.

I only watch whoever Bluecoats are playing against sometimes.  Don't cath all their games.  Never went on the other teams websites, so I don't know.  Didn't Josh have some personal problems at one point?

If you had watched the entire game their are many times during a game where Koumadje let's the defender score too easily on him. He needs to get stronger and quicker.

Which Josh are you talking about? Josh Richardson?

Nothing that was a hanging offense.  He's got a little bit of a bad boy side to him.  But I've never heard of him having issues with teammates or coaches.

Koumadje strikes me is prohibitively slow in the tape I've watched.  I don't think that's fixable.  Though Taco is hardly much faster and the Celts are using him.

The Josh I'm referring to is Josh Jackson, the former lotto pick that was taken in the same draft as Fultz.  He's in the G-league and hitting 3s at a high volume.  I always figured he'd be a monster if he could ever get his 3 ball down.

IS weren't you the guy who was saying they should bring Mayol up to the big club? I guess he was okay after you watched 23 games, but game 24 he lays an egg and his career is done?

I did say bring him up, but his turnovers are starting to mount up.His defense is questionable. I think I spoke to soon.
