Sixers Forum / Re: Embiid 'gun shy'
« on: December 03, 2025, 06:33:42 am »
I think a lot of it is mental, it is not just about feeling pain or his inability to jump but rather his fear of getting hurt when he does leave the ground. In the past he has been hurt quite a few times going up and coming down. It is not that he does not trust the knee, he does not trust the other players not to run into him or take his legs out while he is airborne. He has gone down quite a lot; he has had his legs taken out, his eye socket damaged, in younger players these issues would build up resistance but in older often injured veterans it builds fear.

If it is mental he has to deal with it because they need him to go anywhere, Maxey is a good player having a great season, but it is obvious he needs as much help as he can get. We do not have enough size and not enough skilled players coming off the bench, we also have too many old players, so we cannot run up and down with teams like Atlanta.
We have to make a move or two to get bigger and possibly younger. Joel did not take hardly any shots down the stretch, but I noticed his defense was a lot better, he actually got off the floor and made a few attempts to block shots and also provided some help defense.

The Sixers could have beaten Atlanta if only Jojo would have shot the ball instead 0f standing there looking like a decoy. Embiid passed up some easy opportunities while he looked around for a shooter like Ben Simmons used to do. I don't know if they said something to him on the bench, but he acted as if he did not have the green light to shoot even wide-open shots.

You're probably right, but I think Lebron can be confident that Embiid is not "cooked" as so many are claiming.

He already dealt with AD being in street clothes most games the past few years.  How much worse can Embiid be?

Exactly...been there done that, he figures that type of situation has prevented him from probably winning a chip or two.

Grimes for Kuminga.  Grimes is the safer play, and Curry needs a Klay replacement.  Kuminga, at ~$20-25M per would be a gamble, but one worth taking.

Grimes for Giddy.  This one is trickier, as Giddy was amazing for the Bulls, and it's hard to see why the Bulls would be willing to pay X for Grimes but not Giddy.  Still, not impossible.

PG+ unprotected 203q 1st for LeBron.  If Bron decides he wants out, Philly makes sense.  Tons of shooters, a dominant big, but no real floor general.  As for LA, PG when healthy is a perfect compliment to Luka, and the unprotected 1st should offset any contract concerns they have.
Bron would only come to Philly if he is certain JoJo will be healthy.

That list is not so bad, when we had our most recent 1st pick, we selected Markelle Fultz, look who all we left on the board.

I do not see Jimmy Butler being able to move the needle forward, he is on the downside of his career. One has to admit that he has had a great career, one in which he should have won at least one title, he always kept up his end. It is now time to stop this nonsense in Philly where we do not play and develop the younger guys, instead we go after these pricey older veterans. This has to stop, it has not worked out for us in the last few years. We have lost quite a few good young players simply because we did not try to develop them, Brett Brown wouldn't play or try to develop them, Do Rivers wouldn't do it and now it seems like Nick is leaning that way. Daryl Moret definitely sees it that way if his fixation on older players is any indication. Some players can hang around and be productive in smaller roles as they age, but let's be real basketball is a young man's sport due to the physicality of the game which requires endurance over a rigorous 82 game schedule and possibly an additional 20 plus during the playoffs, I am not knocking the older players but as they age they become injury prone and require extra rest and time off to recover, some like Lebron can defy odds and keep going at a high level without a lot of time off, but the majority of them like Paul George cannot, that's why it was a reckless to offer him the kind of money that they did considering his injury history over the past few years, they could have gotten a lot more for a lot less, we have not gotten any production for that huge payday and all indications are we will not get it this year either, instead we are handcuffed in the free agency market and we are even struggling to sign our own free agents, yet  Morey is still signing these old guys, Kyle Lowry, 39 tank is on E, Eric Gordon, 36 is not too far behind. they were out the door, and he pulled them back in...Why.

Consistent with my belief that his is more a mental breakdown than a physical one.

Let me get this straight Embiid has been having mental knee injuries??? Embiid only mental breakdown was coming back too soon, after the surgery last year he let them rush him back for the playoffs... bad move
This is a lot like the Anrew Toney situation.

The thing about Brett was that he was not interested in developing players, if they did not come out of the box ready to play then they would never get off the bench or they would be traded as soon as possible

Please don't take back to Brett Brown, he was and still is in someways what is wrong with this team..the lousy decisions he made are still hurting this team..but that's what you get when you allow your tank coach to stay on place when the tanking is over

Maybe they should consider trading the 3rd pick but not for KD. I would give up the pick and PG for Laurie Mark and Utah's pick, then we can maybe get Maluach if he is still there

The knee is perfectly fine though.  This is all in his head. Nothing to do with coming back too early from meniscus surgery, and then never getting the chance to properly rehab and recover over the off-season since he was playing in the olympics.

Thanks Doc!!
Realistically it should be in his head, he is the one feeling it...right?

Another year and they simply refuse to let Embiid sit, get treatment and heal. I figure they would fire Morey after the season, but I don't think it can wait, he needs to go now.

14
They should sit him for the rest of the season and let the doctors deal with his knee issues, but why wouldn't they do it, same reason they did not do it last season after the meniscus surgery, Morey wanted to get as much as he could out of him even though everybody knew they did not have a chance in hell to win. If they had just shut him down last season, they probably could have gotten him to skip the Olympics so he could be fresh for this season.
Hopefully they get rid of Morey after the season exactly one second after he fires Nick Nurse. Joel Embiid's time on this team could have been far more productive, they could have hung another banner, if only they had good management and good coaching, they keep hiring these coaches that all seem to coach the same way and then at the end of the season the media blames the players for under-achieving.
Let's be radical and hire a young coach and a young manager, who understand today's game and how it's played and stop bringing in these rethread rejects.

No it is not too early for the free agent wish list, we just have to wait for Morey to announce this years fixation to go along with Harden and George.
