Unless Morey can somehow pull a rabbit out of the hat, Sixers won't be able to add much next year. Sixers are currently about $7M into the luxury tax.  If they don't make a move this year to shed salary and they spend $30M next year, they'll pay the repeater's tax and they'll be just a hair under the first apron. The luxury tax threshold next season will be about $22M. That means vet min and two way players.

If the Sixers pick up Trenton Watford’s option ( I think they will ), they will have 180 tied for 9 players. I would think the goal would be to stay under the 1st Apron. That number is 210 million. So, that is really not that much.

I didn't see your post until after the fact. I hope they sign Barloiw to a standard contract. Aside from that, I agree, there's not much left.

I seen 2 different reports that teams have called about Jared McCain. I really think they have to look into this.

I agree but what would they expect to get back? McCain is averaging 6 ppg on 35% from the floor and 32% from three. I'm sure he'll attract some interest but if Grimes leaves, they'll have to find someone to replace him.

No.

Sixers have $178,743,004 committed to 9 players under contract (Embiid, George, Maxey, Edgecombe, McCain, Watford, Edwards, Bona and Broome). They'll have $22,945,996 in luxury tax room and $31,586,996 in 1st Apron space. I don't see how they can sign Grimes, Oubre or Drummond.

How Trae's value has fallen!

Maybe the Sixers best game of the season. Embiid, Maxey and Edgecombe - all outstanding.

Might as well get this started.  We're a little over a month away from the Feb 5 deadline

DM is prolly on the phone right now trying to talk up a trade.   McCain, Watford, Drummond, EG, Broome, Edwards, and possibly Walker if signed to a standard deal are all prolly on stand by.  Any combination of those contracts could get them something at the deadline and please believe DM will do something.  If theres an ex Rocket or Viper out there flapping, DM will find him...lol!!!

DEN outta Cs right now....just saying.  Does PHI still have the rights to Charles Bassey?

I thought Broome could be cut in order to keep Barlow, but I just looked at his contract.  He signed a $8M/4yr deal.  Thats alot of money for him and what he's done.  I get its only a AAV of about $2M, but dang Barlow making $85K.

I think who gets moved, if anyone, will depend on the Sixers record as the deadline approaches. Sixers have 19 games remaining before Feb 5 so if the Sixers are still in or near the top six as they currently are, I think the franchise will have to go all in for a playoff run, realistically or not. That limits what they can do at the trade deadline. However, if the team loses most of their games between then and now, it would make sense to consider trading Oubre, Drummond or Grimes, if he'll agree, for a pick or two and maybe a younger player with some potential. There's no point in trading McCain now - he's at 35.9% from the floor, 32.5% from three. That won't attract much attention. May as well see if he can find his stroke as the season goes on. Edwards numbers are just as bad. Oubre and Drummond are the players that, if traded, would be most likely to bring back something for the future.

Not much foolishness. 34 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 turns. 11 for 28 from the floor.

This comment makes no sense. I've never seen a media report suggesting Embiid has any form of arthritis.

can a knee be structurally fine, yet he still has chronic pain?

Arthritis.  Given all the wear and tear and damage he's done to his knees it's likely he has extensive arthritis.   Its painful and inflammatory but the bones, tendons and meniscus could be structurally ok.

Osteoarthritis is the common form of arthritis that may develop following a torn meniscus. I'm sure his medical team is doing everything possible to prevent such a development.  It would have negative implications for not only cartiledge but bone as well. Bad news.

I think you can bank 5 wins. Washington, split with Toronto, Pacers, Charlotte, split Sacramento & New Orleans.

If they beat both Sacramento and New Orleans, split with Cleveland, and beat Dallas in Dallas, or take 1 from NYK (since the 6ers already beat them once), they have a chance to go 8-9.

If they go 8-9 ill be pretty happy.

They can do that. Oubre and Watford should be back soon.

Phil's, every year without exception, I hope the Sixers can win an NBA championship. I watch or attend almost every game. Every time a game tips off, I'm, hoping for a win. I don't count the team out but I make a rational assessment about the team's performance and potential. It's obvious to anyone who has played or watched basketball for a long time that this team is flawed and is not likely to contend for a championship. Worse, the team's cap management is a disaster so there may not be much the team can do to make imnprovements. I'll continue to be a fan but I know what I'm looking at and, for the near term, I'm not feeling terrible optimistic.
