Sixers Forum / Re: 18 - 14 better, worse or as you expected?
« on: January 02, 2026, 09:43:55 pm »
I think the record is better than I would have expected, but I'm excited for several reasons outside of the record.

At draft time, many were pounding the table for Ace Bailey.  But the Sixers did their homework and we seem to have gotten the right guy.

George and Embiid are both showing some signs of health, which bodes well for a playoff run or potential trade.  I don't know what to make of Embiid right now - he looks slow on both sides of the court, turning the ball over and not able to get out to shooters.  But just the fact that he's healthy gives the team options.  I'd still like to get younger and more athletic at that position.

The keys to the car appear to have been handed off to Maxey, and it was a seamless transition.  I don't see moping or griping.  There are teams out there with the 2 timelines and are unable to make it work (see Golden State), but the Sixers seem to have a light at the end of the tunnel.

A lot of us wanted Yabusele to return, but with the additions of Barlow and Walker (and to a lesser extent Watford) there is unexpected depth at the 3 despite Oubre's absence.  Bona has exceeded expectations of a second round pick.

I feel like there's a lot to be excited about.  It feels good to watch Sixers games again.

This 3rd Quarter issue is going on too long to be an aberration.  -8.8 which is worst in the NBA.  How do we fix this?

At least we're mostly winning.

Grimes = obstacle for McCain

Gotcha.  Right now McCain has enough obstacles off the court, has to get on the court first.  The way I see it, having that kind of depth is a good "problem" to have.

Cowboys - can you please objectively state what you don't like about Grimes?

Nearly 18 points, 5 boards, 4 assists coming off the bench, shooting 48 percent from 3 in the first 4 games.  He has been an integral part of some of these victories, and only has a price tag of 8.7 million - a bargain.

I understand that we all fear the Dana Barros syndrome - high scoring output on a garbage team.  But when we watch Grimes play and see that quick release, ability to score off the catch or dribble, its tough to not like what he brings.  The team is +36 in 4 games with him on the court, -14 with him off the court.

Can you explain where the animosity comes from?

Nice to see Embiid making buckets.  Just don't push his minutes too much, take it easy.

Thanks for the shout out, CB4L.  I know we haven't always agreed on things and certainly didn't get along (LOL) but I wish you the best in health, life, and future NBA championships.

Great win on the road - would have been pretty upset with an L to that squad.  I'm tired of being apathetic with this team, and they're starting to bring in some exciting young players.  The East is weak and I want to see if they can make some noise.  That all starts with a W.

I know what you are saying and with Barkey, Brown, and even WR3 perhaps Dotson, only these 3 will NOT be from the draft. Everyone else on this unit is a product of an earier draft which is now focused on defense. On D, you can easily arrange where with the top 11 guys, only Baun is not a product of the draft which is phenomenal AND most if not all within the last 3/4 years. And, the 2 key players who left for richer pastures, were also product of our draft (Sweat and Williams). I'm not sure there is another team in the NFL that has put so many draft picks on the field and a routine participant in the post season, and of course, a SB victory, and two SB appearances in the last 3 years.

Eventually they will have to replace Lane Johnson, and it will likely be with a cheaper option at RT.  The problem is that's a lot of cash that's going to have to go out to those defensive players if we choose to keep them, and the FO will have some tough decisions.  Do they go cheaper on another O line spot?  Do they replace one of the WRs with a younger cheaper option (hopefully drafted)?  Time will tell.

All accounts said Ringo struggled during the first practice.  So, Adoree Jackson got some 1st team reps as well on day-1.  On day-2, Jackson started out as CB2 with Ringo replacing him later.  Didn't see anything on how the two performed during the 2nd practice.
I heard the same. The good news is that there is good competition for that spot, with Jackson and McWilliams there as well.  In a pinch they could even move Dejean to the outside, which is where he will likely go eventually (since that's where the bigger money is).

Other defensive concerns are that second safety spot and the D line.  They must really like what they see in Mukuba.  I liked Ojulari in NY, good energy but oft-injured.  Hopefully between Uche and others we have enough bodies that someone rises above the rest.  For once offball linebacker depth doesn't really make the concern list.

I agree that an injury on the offensive side would be a bigger problem, but I think Brown and Barkley are the guys we can't afford to lose.  Lane Johnson is awesome, but I think they'd figure out a way to keep it together - I think they used Fred Johnson last year for Lane.  But when Brown or Barkley go down, the offense becomes much more one dimensional.

The coaches must really like what they see because they haven't gone out and picked up any FA retreads (like Washington and Von Miller).

NYK checked in on Aussie...kicked the tires I guess.  NYK my 2d fav team, so I'm kinda torn here.  I don't want him to sign w PHI or NYK, but I do want him to find a job.

you lost me at NYK 2d fav team.  I think that's a violation.

I agree with Cowboys on this.  At some point you have to start to turn the page.  If you want Kyle Lowry on the team, add him to the coaching staff.

I really liked Grimes.  I want to see how we can utilize his quick release shot when the defense doesn't know he's our only threat.

Sixers Forum / Re: Is VJ Edgecombe A Franchise Player?
« on: June 27, 2025, 05:07:53 pm »
When I think of the 3rd pick, I think that player should be a franchise player... If not a ROBIN...

I think you're setting the bar a little bit high, wouldn't want to put that kind of pressure on a 19 year old.  We went through a 3-year period where we drafted Okafor, Simmons, Fultz top 3.  I'm not saying we should set the bar that low either but those guys aren't close to being stars.  I would say lets just see what Edgecombe can do and see if he can mature from starter to having a greater impact and being a great team guy - which those other 3 guys were not.

Definitely adds some intrigue and potentially direction to the team.

Dave- welcome home! Give me the center from Stanford and trade a future 2. We have no picks next year

Thank you sir.  Hoping this team completes the youth movement and gives us a squad we can be proud of!  One step at a time.

Now we lose Penda. Can we get a break here?

That's impressive.  You nailed two picks in a row.  Who else is on your radar?

Sixers Forum / Re: Are Your Expectations Higher Or Lower Next Season.
« on: June 05, 2025, 10:39:34 pm »
Interesting question.  I think I have no expectations, but that could change depending on how the next 1-2 months go.  I'd love to trade Embiid or George but I don't think there are too many options available there.  It would be great to start the youth movement and build around those guys.  I have very little faith in Morey as he seems married to the super team philosophy.  I like what I've seen in Maxey, Grimes, McCain, even Yabusele.  Ace Bailey is the hot draft name, but do the Sixers see it the same way?
