Mad Max the best player on the court in the early going.

Not nearly what we're paying for though.

I personally love it, and the messages that it sends.  But I do think the chokehold is going to cost Ben.  Hope I'm wrong.  It just looked bad with Towns already face down on the floor in the pile

What is better about this year is that we have committed to an identity, and every regular rotation player is suited to fit that defensive identity.

We didn't replace JJ's shooting,  but if that forces the team to slash more and get the ball inside more,  then our 3-pt looks will improve greatly, and we won't need JJ's off balance bombs that only he can make.

The one concern that's valid minus Jimmy is who will be our closer.  But I have a feeling that player will emerge or it may become close by committee depending on who has it going that night.

I'll believe it when I see it.
But in all honesty,   I don't need 3's from Ben.   Just has to become a relentless scorer by any means necessary using all his physical gifts.  Post-ups, runners, floaters, hook shots.  Become a master at all of those shots.  Then If teams give you a wide open 15-ftr ,  take it with no hesitation and no apologies.  We've got 2 of the game's better rebounders now in Jo and Al there to clean up the boards.

I agree with holding to the youngsters we have now and trying to accelerate their development.  But the Miami pick is gone now, is it not?

Sixers Forum / Re: Does Korkmaz have a future in Philly!
« on: December 12, 2018, 08:08:57 am »
It would makes logical sense for him to be the successor to JJ.  By the end of the season he will have had two years to learn from him.   I would like to see Kork's role increased and JJ's reduced as the season goes along.

Obviously a managerial blunder not picking up his option.  Maybe before the butler trade they thought Kork would have more value in a trade package as an expiring contract, but they pulled one off without including him.  Don't know.

But to have a shooter who's young with room to improve, good size, skill set fits with our big 3, not one dimensional, and at least is not a liability on D.....  to me it should be a no brainer.  It just may cost them a little more than it should have had to.

More and more, I'm struggling to consider Ben part of a 'big' anything.  Through 3.5 quarters he good to great most nights.  But in the guts of a close game his limitations are not glaring if not crippling.

Having butler will alleviate a lot of that late game pressure.  But we'll need some type of contribution for Ben on offense to close out games to to become contenders.

I'm sensing a letdown this week.   Arizona has a pretty stingy D.  Kolb will no doubt be playing with a chip on his shoulder and a lot to prove.

Cardinals 24
Eagles 20

We could have beaten Boston with J-Rich and Nick Young (instead of Lou Will and Jodie meeks).  We weren't that far off, we just couldn't make shots when we needed to in Game 7.

As for Bynum, 20+ and 10+ would be nice (I expect no less than a dozen boards a night).  But I'm hoping that other players step their games up so that Bynum doesn't have to carry ALL the scoring load.  With Jrue and Turner hopefully taking the next step in their development, and the army of shooters that we now have, and Doug's commitment to getting out and running,  I'd be ok with Bynum not having too much of the scoring burden.   Where we will need him most is down the stretch of close games where it slows to a halfcourt pace, and we need post scoring and scoring from offensive rebounding (the Howard-esque putback slams).

If Bynum is averaging 22+points per game, I think it will be because the rest of the team is proving to be inept offensively, which won't be a good thing.

Eagles Forum / Kelce Injry Update: Return Not Looking Good
« on: September 17, 2012, 03:24:00 pm »

From Philly.com

"Jason Kelce suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and a complete tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee, the Eagles said Monday.

The team have not yet ruled out the center for the season.

The Eagles have two options in terms of Kelce's recovery and timetable for return. They could allow the MCL tear to heal, which would take 4-6 weeks, and permit him to return with his injured knee braced. Or they could decide, after team physician Dr. Peter DeLuca examines the ACL Tuesday during a "diagnostic" arthroscopic surgery, to perform surgery and end Kelce's season.

"There is not a consensus across the country from sports medicine people," Eagles head trainer Rick Burkholder said.

The MCL tear has to heal before anything can be done with the ACL injury, Burkholder said.

Burkholder said there have been examples of other NFL players with similar injuries returning to play in the same season as their injuries.

"It's a mixed bag," he said. "Some people get it fixed right away, and some people just let the MCL heal and play with a partial" ACL tear. "

Not the kind of news you want to hear.  I thought Dallas Reynolds held his own in an emergency situation late in the game.  You hope he can maintain and build on that going forward.

Mathematically, they are still in a good position.  But I just don't see a team with the mental makeup to get it done.  Too many unproven guys out there.   These aren't the "Fightins" anymore.  The most fight this team has is in the breaking down body of Utley.    They needed to take 3 of 4 from the Astros instead of dropping 3 of 4.

Hope I'm wrong though.

Playing with Kobe and Gasol, I thought freed up more scoring opportunities for Bynum.   Here, he will be the primary focus of opposing defenses, the way Brand was when he first arrived.  He'll get more touches for sure, but his biggest contribution early on will be as a passer out of the post, until our perimeter players can prove themselves as 3-point weapons.     I do expect double-digit boards from Andrew.

Bynum:  16 ppg, 13 rebs, 2 blocks.

At this point I would have to give Lavoy the nod.

Thad continually gets exposed when he has to go up against a legit 4-man.  Just doesn't have the size to bang.   Having Bynum doesn't suddenly make Thad grow 3 inches and 30 lbs.  He's best suit to come off the bench when the matchup is favorable.  Like he has been.

Hawes, I though this was a joke the first time I heard it.  For all his offensive benefits, Hawes defensively at the 4 guarding the likes of Garnett, Josh Smith, David West, Amare, Bosh, etc... is just a disaster waiting to happen.  Teams will go right after hawes in this matchup.  Doug will be subbing after 3-4 minutes.  This is a waste of time, IMO.  His perimeter shooting and passing is only really useful at the 5 spot against slower bigs.  Not a fan of this in the least.

Moultrie.  I like length and his potential but he's got to earn his way onto the court, IMO, and prove he can play at this level, the way Lavoy did down the stretch and in the playoffs last season.  He's got to show that he will give up his body and be equipped to be bang and battle on the glass night in and night out.

Which leaves Lavoy.    He has the best combination of size defensively (compare to Thad), mobility defensively (compared to Hawes), and a midrange J to be able to contribute without being a liability in some aspect, while still allowing Bynum to establish himself in the post.
