For morons like you and mikey(simplejack), an escalator can’t be “inadvertently” turned off.  A person like the photographer referenced would have needed to remove the emergency shutoff cover and press firmly on the shutoff switch in order to do this.  An escalator can be shutoff remotely, however, by security personnel through the Building Management System.
