Most teams play their starters more minutes in the playoffs. So if Maxey's getting 38+ minutes that's 10-12 minutes a night in the playoffs for McCain. Plus you need to have a good 4th guard to play with Maxey while VJ sits because you can't play Maxey and McCain together unless you want to watch teams shoot over our backcourt ala Jayson Tatum 3 years ago.

It's also a near impossibility to play a 3 guard rotation when 2 of your guys are 6'2.

I mean hey, you can make anyone your 6th man. but if you want a good one then fit needs to be accounted for. you want someone who makes you more versatile. Can play with VJ or Maxey or even both in 3 guard change of pace lineups (or if a forward is hurt).

I like Jared. Heck... I said to start the season, there's an argument to be made that you trade Maxey for a huge haul and rebuild with VJ/McCain.
But yeah... imo its poor asset management/roster construction to expect to get big minutes from both Maxey and McCain on the same team.  And i'd argue the vast majority of fans on this forum and in the Delaware valley understood that 2 years ago when he was drafted.

McCain fits better with OKCs cause Shai and Jalen Williams are big guards. But I think Caruso, Mitchell and Carson Wallace get more playoff minutes (assuming health) so how many minutes is your 5th or 6th guard getting?

All the explanations you give are legitimate, but I doubt they had anything to do with Morey's decision to move him. He was an inexpensive rookie who was a developing shooting option off the bench. Morey spent all the money on Joel and PG and was/is left shopping at the Dollar Tree to build a team. Does it matter? Probably not.

Well, sure, But it's also not certain that McCain would be able to consistently do what he's doing in OKC on a healthy 6ers team because he's such a poor fit with Maxey. The vast majority of 6ers fans understood that when we drafted him. But we're so starved for young talent that we forget. McCain's a case of a guy who fits better on other teams, so he was always destined to get traded. But like for sure, I get being p*ssed they sold at a low point on him.

I think that the "we're so starved for young talent" comment says it all and is enough to lament his trade. Young players on cheap contracts aren't exactly harming the team literally or financially.  And as to the "poor fit with Maxey". He's scoring off the bench, isn't he? How is that a poor fit with Maxey or any of the OKC starters? And I think it's also important to acknowledge his work ethic and likeability. Fans don't get much to get behind in Philly. He fit with Maxy and VJ in that sense for the future.

Embiid and PG can both fetch us draft capital if we trade them this offseason.

Neither of these guys have had a major injury in years.  You guys make it seem as if they're crippled.

Draft capital? You mean swap a few picks, gain a few seconds and take back equal $$$$$. I don't know what you think constitutes a major injury, but their age and average games played says it all. They might not be crippled but the Sixers are. Morey spent it all on the 2–3-year window of these two and that dream is surely fading.

DM says that 3pt are more of an issue than tanking...lol!!  His nerdy @$$ analytics helped usher it in.  Now, it's a problem....lol

You can't divert attention away from your own crap moves DM by talking tanking and 3-point shooting. <<<Joel Embiid has averaged about 27.6 games per year in his NBA career, based on his regular-season game totals>>  Justify the big fat extension you gave him when you didn't need to. Talk about that.

Daryll Morey wants to talk about anything but his mega max signings. I'd like to hear his thoughts on Paul George's stats. In 15 seasons, he's averaged 33.5 games played. Looks like he had to take unsanctioned drugs to keep his numbers down. Was he worthy of a 4-year contract at his age and frailty? Riddle me that DM.

Regardless of what one thinks of his work as a GM, he's a legitimately smart human being who has interesting insight on just about any topic he talks about.

Anything but the important and pertinent topic of how and why he spent $200 million on 2 old dogs.

I’m from  the OLD SCHOOL. EMBIID is out tonight for the T-Wolves game for the same @. How many cards does Morey & NN have to deal EMBIID!? In the meantime EMBIID is sitting on the bench getting a paycheck. IMO EMBIID probably sit out the next game. This means EMBIID has been sitting before the NBA All Star Game & the 3 road games. I think this should’ve been enough time to get his giraffes knees together.

Let’s hope when the NBA Season ends I would cut ties with everything on the Sixers Management. When the next starts Redd Foxx will have everything on the table. By then the Sixers can build with Maxey, VJ & Bona.

They're saving him for when Prescription Paul returns for a big 10 game run!

I don't know, Nina. On January 27, George had one of his best games in years. 32 points on 9 made threes!n On January 31, the NBA suspended him for doping. He'll need to show the league what he can do without Ketamine in his system.

Using AI. Know nothing about Ketamine. Is it a performance enhancing drug?

<<<Not traditionally classified as a performance-enhancing drug
Ketamine is not traditionally classified as a performance-enhancing drug. It was originally developed as an anesthetic and has been used in treating mental health disorders, particularly depression. While it can induce a state of sedation and relaxation, its primary use is not to enhance physical performance or athletic ability.>>>>

I don't think there's an NBA GM who would be willing or have the cap space to take on either of those contracts. Get used to vet mins and two-way players. Only two more years for George and a mere three for Embiid.

I agree, but still there's a chance he'll be able to move Prescription Paul after this year.

DM really made a mistake here IMO.  Whats funny is, LAC wasn't trynna pay him, but DM did.

The funniest part of this is that it was history repeating itself. Clippers had Tobias Harris in the building and wasn't trying to pay him either.

Can't really start over until both George and Embiid are off the books, imo. Its going to be a long transition phase but we'd be waiting on VJ to develop, anyway.

Paying Embiid in advance and handing PG a max were killing moves. This is year 2 (the year) if Morey sincerely believed the Sixers could contend with those 2. What's he going to do now? Give away future draft picks to get rid of them and their 15-game potential and take back what?

He finished 2nd in MVP voting in 2021 and 2022, won the MVP award in 2023, and was well on his way to winning it again in 2024 when he tore his meniscus.

Yes, he hasn't been healthy in the playoffs since the Raptors series, but lets not act like he wasn't playing the ~75% of games needed to even qualify for MVP voting.

You're missing the point. If Embiid was unhealthy for the playoffs which he was, then after 10 years Morey should have tuned in to that fact when committing massive money early. I'm certainly happy for Jo that he won this award and a gold medal but we've won nothing.

Embiid was coming off a string of 4 straight MVP caliber seasons when he got that extension

What happened with his knee last season was bizarre and perplexed every medical expert the Sixers consulted with.

I have my theory as to what happened, what's undeniable is that he's fine now and playing at a near MVP level again.

I get it that you're high on the All-Star weekend accolades, but "MVP caliber seasons" means absolutely nothing when you're injured each and every year and LOSE bigly in the playoffs. DM finally had the money to build the team of his choice, and he spent $400 million on PG and Joel. That was his plan and all we're left with is undrafted finds, players out of the league and trading fan favorite draft picks on a mini salary.

I agree with PG. I as a bad signing and I would have preferred 2/3 players at a total of 50 million a year. Not 1 player.

But, as for Embiid, even at 75%, he is the 2nd best center in all of basketball and it’s not even close. Right now, we just have to see how the year pans out.

I just don't see why Morey had to give Joel the extension in advance. Embiid has been injured so often for so many years. What % of games has he played? I'm just grateful at this point that DM didn't move Maxey or VJ for Embiid's last hurrah. I don't think rebuilding while trying to contend is a dream scenario, but it's better than the alternative.
