Johnson pitched well against minor league guys, but ML hitters where taking the easy walks. (walking seven batters in 9.2 innings this spring despite a 1.86 ERA.)

Kyle Backhus essentially clinched the final lefty spot with a dominant spring.  How long will the magic of his fluke  delivery last?

Bryan De La Cruz has done enough to make Phillies Opening Day Roster, but some rough d in spots.

One MLB player has,  Ryan Braun, got a a 50-game suspension overturned in 2012 due to a chain-of-custody issue with his sample.

The urine sample collector did not follow protocol (he kept the sample in his home refrigerator over a weekend).

Braun failed his drug  test  during his MVP season IIRC.

No merit  to his frivolous appeal.   Boldenome is an injectable testosterone derivative approved only for veterinary use.  Not something he could have accidentally consumed in his food, drink, or as a health additive.

Wheeler and Nola are coming off injury, Painter is unproved at this point. Walker is really the only  SP depth.

Likely AAA starters :

RH Jean Cabrera   is on 40 man roster
RH Alan Rangel   is on 40 man roster
LH Tucker Davidson
RH Bryse Wilson
RH Connor Gillispie

I really hope the Phillies don't need these  guys.

Good news is, the Mets and Braves look short on SP also.  The Braves should be kicking themselves for not signing Gallen.

This site can not translate Lithuanian to English , but you can open the link in your browser.  It takes 1 to 3 weeks to ship to USA.  I am tempted to try them but the shipping to here is very high. A bag of those chips would be the life of a party.

I was gonna joke that they could get Pache back but he's actually on a minor league deal with the Mets, 1.932 OPS in spring training so far.

Thomson only rarely    makes defensive substitutions.    A back-up CF/defensive replacement who can't hit and will barely play in the first place are a dime a dozen.

I think Dylan Moore was probably more likely to make it over Rojas anyway. But otherwise it gives Pedro Leon the edge over De La Cruz (plus he's on the 40 already).

He is or was in the running for the last bench spot in my mind.   I have seen conflicting reports, some say it was marijuana which isn’t allowed in WBC but MLB doesn’t test for it.

MLB tests everyone during spring training, so we will find out soon,  if and when he reports to camp.

Johan Rojas has reportedly tested positive for a banned substance and was  ruled ineligible to participate in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

That would explain his big winter league bat.

The Athletic article  yesterday noted that Miller’s back was bad last year, and he had a relapse at the beginning of spring training.

Younger athletes often develop imbalances from over training larger muscle groups, and with today’s advanced sports medicine advancements they’ll get it worked out.

All teams do this in the Latin American countries apparently.

In other corners of the sports world, such as soccer in particular, where players as young as   six  ( FC Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal ),   are sometimes scouted in Europe and sent to academies where they relentlessly train in their sport/vocation.

Da'vian Kimbrough, who became the youngest professional team sports athlete in U.S. history in 2023 at 13 years, 5 months, and 13 days old. Kimbrough signed with Sacramento Republic FC of the USL Championship, one level below Major League Soccer.

The Braves, Astros, Dodgers , Blue Jays and others have gotten early pre draft deals for years.  The money can not be accessed  until the player is 16 in baseball.    Years later if everything goes just right,  this cannot help but incentivize the parents to dedicate everything to making sure their child eventually secures that payday. The incentive for overtraining, for abuse, for doping, all goes through the roof.

read the phils signed an 11 year old from some south American country for like 1.8 million. 11 years old, how is that even allowed.
[/quo

They didn’t sign him. It’s a pre-agreement, which means they have the right to sign him in 2031 when he is 16,   if they still want to then.    It’s like a letter of intent for football players; it’s not binding, just an agreement that may or may not be broken in the future.

Alec Bohm had the 2nd lowest swinging strike rate  (  6.30%)  in baseball last year.  Great tool.  The issues with Bohm are:
1. He doesn’t walk
2. He doesn’t hit for power
3. very poor runner

The Phillies still don't have the RH middle of the order bat they really need.

caveat emptor    Be very careful investing in Florida.   Near the beach salt in the air breaks down poorly mixed concrete.   Remember the 2021 Surfside tragedy?    That  led to stricter inspection laws, which have created great financial pressure on older buildings. Many insurance companies are pulling out of Florida

Mid 70's and cloudy, very humid (97%).

I  had an uncle who retired here back in the mid 80s.  He past away 2 years ago.   My cousins have been trying to sell his condo,  but the market is in the toilet for condo sales.  They are ready to let it go to foreclosure because home owner insurance and HOA fees have gone crazy (both over 10,000 a year).
