The club has not confirmed the deal, which includes an opt-out after the second and third years, a $64 million signing bonus and $30 million deferred, according to multiple reports.

If true, Tucker’s deal with Dodgers assures a lockout.

It’s absolutely ridiculous. The sport is broken. Imagine being a die hard fan in Pittsburgh or Denver or Miami or Cincy or Kansas City

Phillies Board / Re: 2027 CBA: Hard Cap?
« on: January 10, 2026, 07:44:58 am »
There is almost a certainty of a lockout because Rob Manfred is looking for an excuse to impose a salary cap.   The MLBPA will never go for that without a commensurate salary floor .

There are a whole slew of owners who will absolutely refuse to accept that; for every L.A., Toronto, or N.Y. team willing to spend to win, there are just too many owners who just want to accept the profit the national TV contracts offer them without putting more than is necessary to field a team (the Pirates, Reds, Marlins, Rays, White Sox, Rockies, and Athletics among them.)

Any  floor cannot be a pittance that enables the bottom 7–8 teams to continue to spend 30% of the current Luxury tax thresholds.

JT is still a good defensive catcher and he really is good at calling a game.  But he is no longer a very good offensive player.

I’m guessing Realmuto is asking for 3/50 and the Phillies are countering with 2/32.    He probably wants the 3 year deal so he is essentially not right back in the FA market. This is assuming the CBA negotiations will cancel half the season in 27, possibly the entire season.

Wheeler  has been cleared to begin throwing programs. The Phillies are hopeful he will be ready to pitch in a major league game within the projected window maybe late April or early May.  Wheeler was performing at a Cy Young-contending level before he went on DL,   As long as the phrenic nerve was not damaged, he should be good.

Generally, Amtrak is cheaper for shorter trips (a few hundred miles) while flying is cheaper for longer distances..   There are three routes  in Arizona, but    Phoenix does not have direct Amtrak service, you can connect to Phoenix from the Maricopa station via Amtrak Connection or from Flagstaff via bus or van.

We took  The Southwest Chief route is known for its scenic views, including the Grand Canyon and other natural wonders. Amazing.  Get seats  in upper level of Superliner Sightseer Lounges.

A few few years ago we did the Empire Builder trip, it may be the best rail trip in the country.    From the Windy City to Big Sky Country, behold the magnificent skylines and natural beauty of America on one of Amtrak’s most scenic routes: The Empire Builder. This legendary route offers views of natural wonders including the Mississippi River, Glacier National Park, the vast North Dakota Plains and wildlife throughout Montana. From Spokane, your options expand along two tracks, allowing you to either continue to the vibrant city of Seattle or venture down toward Portland where passengers can witness the majestic Mt. Hood.

You can bring food, snacks and drinks.  There are plenty  of dining options, but watch out, easy to run up a monster credit card bill. lol

It's not surprising Briere has a soft spot for players like himself.

Barkey, Brink, TK and Pelletier is probably too many small forwards. And the Russian center they're trying to sign would make them even smaller.

Brink is one of the few players who responded  positively  to Torts by becoming a much better forechecker and more responsible defensively.

The Orioles Ryan O'Hearn  will be available. Not a lot of power, but he has high OBA..    316/.397/.500 line, an .897 OPS and nine home runs in 54 games.

Jeff Passan's rumor of the week  lists Pete Fairbanks and Kyle Finnegan as trade deadline options for the Phillies.

The sky isn't falling.    Kepler and Stott look like they walked off a cliff ,   Schwarber in huge slump and we are still in playoff position

Speaking of Denzel Clarke. I am sure everyone has seen his amazing catch, but here it is:

He is Rojas with a higher baseball IQ. Hard pass

How about a RF who doesn't run like a 40 year old beer league softball player.

I thought it was a good watch.   I missed the awkward relationship  that Dana  (Anna Kendrick) and Christian had in the 1st movie, but the Affleck and Jon Bernthal's chemistry was outstanding.

Why wasn't it made 6 or 7 years ago?

Thomson could ride a hot  bat  a bit better.   But Sosa   has been streaky in his career.

And we see why Kemp has not been playing more LF.    He is the only in case of emergency infielder available .

A big part of this move is Sosa I imagine. Since May 21st he is 3-29 with 1 BB and 8 Ks. 265 OPS.

Imagine Kemp will play 5-6 days a week until he shows he can't  or until Bryce is back.

I would not recognize the 80 year year old LaRussa.     Charlotte is the White Sox AAA team.

I see that   LaRussa is currently serving as a special advisor to the  White Sox.

After the Phillies bombed last night, I was flipping back and forth from College WS to AAA game.    It may not mean anything,  but Dombrowski was in Charlotte  sitting behind home plate with various scouts.

Crawford and Kemp are two of the hottest hitting OF in AAA.  I could see Kemp being part of a trade if the Phillies don't use him .  Kemp has been playing LF.

Phillies Board / Re: Some names for the bullpen at the deadline
« on: May 28, 2025, 07:32:08 am »
I think the Phils  would be wise to see what Abel can offer this year.  His path forward in the rotation seems pretty well blocked this year, barring injury.

I’d want to know if Abel could be a reliable 6th/7th inning piece in the pen.   With the movement he has on his fastball and curve, he could do well.

His slider and change still need some work, but he can work on that in the off-season, if  he goes back in the rotation next year.

I remember  the Nats  deciding to go all in  2019.   The Nats almost completely overhauled their bullpen before the deadline.  There was quite a cost, but they won.

The 2011 Cardinals  also did the same. They remade their bullpen, going from near worst to best in the NL.
