I didn’t watch the game but you know I have feeling there are going to be more real crazy box scores in some of these games with the serious tankers vs teams trying to win.

2 years ago when Embiid started the year on fire before the injury and was putting up 50 in 3Q and hung 70 on Wemby if that version of Embiid played now with all these tanking teams and was allowed to play a whole game I could have literally seen 100 if he want d.

And it won’t change next year they have bird rights on oubre and grimes but if they use them they won’t sign anyone with mle because they’ll go into tax so it’s either one mle level player and mins or oubre and/or grimes and mins 20 something mill i not a lot to fill out 6 spots 4 mins will take up 9 plus so they’ll have like 15 mil to sign 2 mor players m.

Now as said they could do both and use mle to go into tax but could have this year don’t hold you breath.  What you are going to get is maybe the very late 1st which will be cheap plus one of oubre / grimes / someone on open market up to mle plus 4 mins ( could be guys resigned) that will be fa don’t get your hopes up for anything else

Yeah, that's our problem. Not the PG signing or Embiid's extension.

And where are you getting this elite shooting star, I miss something?  It's gonna sound like I hate the kid, but I don't, I was fine with the pick but am I missing something?   He was a nice shooter last year, more mid range than three ball but got where he needed to and hit his shots, not this year. So let's agree the truth lies in the middle, he's a small guard that can hit the open shot, but he's nothing special.

And those screaming it's a money move need to think before reacting.  They can ship Gordon and a second to about 10 different teams and be under the tax, this move had to be a value move. Three 2nds can get you a mid 20s pick. Two mid 20s can get you to where McCain was drafted.  Just gives them more draft capital to throw around.  I just hope they use it to get a player like Portis or Bey, someone that helps.

No one said elite shooting “star” but has elite shooting skillset potential which is pretty clear even with rough start this year. FT % is usually a good indicator for long-term shooting success and he has hovered around the 90% line. This year even with a horrific start dragging it down he is shooting 38% from 3 and last year was even better on volume.  The big difference this year has been in the way he moves both on defense and drives which makes sense coming back from the knee and you can see in his defense this year and the huge drop in his 2pt% because he can’t get to his spots or the rim.  I don’t think he will be a star but a very good shooting role player guard of the bench is a need for any time -  even with the horrible start this year for McCain and amazing end to last year for grimes McCain still shot better from 3 in both years last year in volume for both and this year in a supporting role.

I’m not trying to make it out like it’s the end of the world but to give up a young piece for really bad value is my issue. The 26th pick in this years draft has very little value and doesn’t open up other options with Stepien rules either and if another trade is coming executing now instead of waiting till tomorrow in a possible multi team deal also hurts salary matching opportunities (if the plan isn’t to duck the tax).  They may make a trade but this was done now because the are moving on and almost ensures they duck the tax as a cherry on top. They can now go up to the 1st apron and take back 7.5m more than outgoing salary if they take back more money then the tax line or find some team that gives us an amazing player we needed the 26th pick in the draft for I’ll be fine but my issue is moreso the value back and the timing of it because neither really helps a future deal much of anything hinders it but both help locking in being under the tax line

We are talking Jared McCain here right?  The same guy that many on here flipped out about when they passed Knecht?  We aren't talking SGA or Maxey, kids a nice small guard but not a game changer, and I know, was rookie of the year until he got hurt.  Was that the same year and team that Q Grimes looked like an all-star, asking for a friend.

And if I said you could get Quentin Grimes signed to 4-6m a year for next 2.5 years and restricted rights afterward would you sign up for that even though he doesn’t look like last year of course you would better then adding in Reggie Jackson as your bench. It’s about upside potential and cost control and elite shooting - that is what has value a late 20s pick could hit but has very limited value.

Have to agree, maybe a move with Houston?  Would love a Tari Eason deal.  Read they were interested in Drummond with their centers injured.  Does adding this first open more than the 3 firsts they could move?  Can they move 4 or even more now?  Can't keep track of all the rules anymore.

Houston supposedly isn’t trading Eason would love to see him but would think McCain would be of move value to them then a late 20s first.

From our standpoint a 28 or 29 1st would have added value from a Stepien standpoint because it would have opened us up to being able to trade both clippers picks if something big came up but a 26 pick doesn’t do much.  Yes it allows us to trade our 27 pick but then you can’t trade 28 clippers since nets have our 28 pick.  So before you could go 28 clippers 30 and 32 now you could go 4 if you add in the 26 Houston but how much value does a late 20s 1st really add not much or you could go 27 (29 with lac swap) and 31.

I guess from a Houston trade standpoint if they were doing something big (like Gianni’s) maybe a 26 1st could have value to them because it would free them up to trade both 27 picks one being theirs which has swap rights with and the other being Phoenix suns

Yea I hate it a late first and 2nds is very little - hope we have a bigger trade coming but can’t see how Houston’s pick does much for adding value.  Sounds like Harris needed more 2nds to dump salary in the future and got to dump McCain this year to get his money

I would sit on an offer of PG, McCain and our 2028 (LA), 2030 and 2032 1sts.

I agree this would the offer and tbh I think it is better than most unless a Houston or OKC wanted to get in the mix. I much rather this than middle of the 1st picks from GSW with an injured dump salary in butler.

I would try to keep it just the first pg and Gordon for matching since we wouldn’t have picks for young cheap contracts like McCain but McCain wouldn’t be deal breaking either. I could also seen 3 team where pg went to say gsw with butler going to Minnesota and being bought out for another 1st from gsw (if they can’t get Giannis it allows them to use butlers salary for someone they had interest in before).

With all that said I doubt it happens but if they got 4 1st including  one from gsw and a dump salary in butler it’s not a bad deal ion.

Sixers Forum / Re: TANKING

They could flatten the lottery odds more and maybe have more selections that might help the extreme tanking.  If there were 6 picks instead of 4 and the odds difference between 1 and 10th worst team than there isn’t a huge reason to tank if your not a good team. But even when you tweak stuff like that there are other consequences.  More fringe playoff teams could tank to get in lottery, it would be harder for really bad teams to get better all these trade already occurred  with current protections those picks would have completely different values which isn’t really fair -  it gets complicated quick

Eason for Grimes work?

Unfortunately it doesn’t really work because of the cap.   Houston is right against their hard cap so they we would have to give up another non-min contract (capela being easiest but you could also have dfs). If we’d take on the extra contract we’d have to move more out it gets complicated and even with all that Houston would lose bird rights which would make it hard for them to resign.

Because grimes is from Houston and the needs of both teams I thought this was a decent fit until the contracts came in and with how close to hard cap rockets are and grimes signing QO it makes it tough.   One that does work cap wise very easily is McCain for season straight-up but I don’t want to give up on him right away. You could also do like Drummond (don’t see their need) or. 2 min salaries such as Gordon plus Lowry(would have to waive no trade) or Edwards plus pick but don’t see what that does for a win now team like rockets.

I think Eason would be a great add for this team but hard to see a deal that works well for both teams unless we are willing to give up McCain straight up or a 3-team deal or Hou just wants to move on

Sixers Forum / Re: A reason to trade McCain
« on: December 13, 2025, 11:43:27 am »
He really needs time to get back playing and get healthier -  I don’t know if it’s about getting healthier or trusting the knee more.  Even with that the bigger problem is he doesn’t have a great place in this lineup -  with all that said you don’t give up on a guy who showed what he did with 2.5 yrs left on a rookie contract that is cheap unless it heavily improves your team and that trade might not be out there.

The only one I see that could make sense on both sides is Tari Eason for McCain because Houston might not want to pay him it works well straight up cap wise and Houston needs guards but do we want to pay him too with the injury risks.  I think it just needs to play out and he needs time to find his way which could be difficult on a team trying to win.

Butler wears out his welcome again.   It may actually be because he doesn't have much left.   Always injured and not the impact on the court he once had.  No one beats father time.

I really don’t want Jimmy -  if they are done with jimmy it might easiest trade to make but Jimmy is paid a ton and pretty old at this point as you say.  The only benefit you may get with Jimmy is being embiids friend maybe he could talk sense into him (if a lot of it really is mental as kruk thinks) but if we are going to make a trade it should be for someone mid20s  not 36

Sixers Forum / Re: Pelicans
« on: December 07, 2025, 09:33:06 am »
I was playing around with ideas in my head for pelicans (because they will probably make trades) weeks ago - the only thing I can come up with that makes sense is a 3 team trade where pg goes to another team that could want him.  Where my mind went was Atlanta because they supposedly wanted PG last year and seem to want to move off expiring porzingus so where my head went was porzingus risacher and kennard for pg and maybe some draft comp then moving risacher and kennard to NOP (a young guy and expiring) to NOP for Trey Murphy. Probably need small cap filler like Drummond in deal too but would work the problem would be how much draft comp would NOP want and would Atlanta rather go after someone like Giannis who is available. I mean we could put up the LAC pick but you know NOP would want try to get there pick back I thought maybe we give clip pick to Atlanta and they give NOP their pick back but if they are giving that up wouldn’t they want Giannis or Trey instead of Pg even if they still get high level pick back.

To make it work you’d have to give up a lot and probably be 3 team trade and I like Trey Murphy but right now on the court I don’t know if he gives you much more than pg when he actually plays  - pg is frustrating as heck but is still a good 2 way player - his defense is still very good and he can still shoot the ball he just never seems to want to play or be here.  But if you could end up with an expiring porzingus and Trey Murphy you could save plenty of cap next year to resign grimes and add a full mle while having a young core locked up for a long time I just think cost might be too much.

A part of me wonders if a similar trade like this for Embiid could be out there b it very unlikely - with our guards you’d have  Trey Murphy and Paul George both good shooters who can do a little of everything but you’d have a hole at center I guess porzingus could fill that even though he plays as much as Embiid -  it feels like a trade could be there just hard to get to something that actually works

I think you did a really good job of illustrating just how unlikely it is to trade PG for any value. Like even in your examples, wouldn't ATL rather just trade for Murphy if that's a possibility. Wouldn't the Lakers rather Lebron retire and use their cap space to build properly around Luka. Wouldn't GS rather try to get younger?

Your exactly right -  Atlanta would do murphy deal straight up more likely than not (unless the price was too high and we were willing to pay more so it was compromise) - it's really hard to see a deal that fits. I think GSW is the one team that might take him for final run but that would have been last year - they'd have to give up pieces now which make it tougher and PG has an extra year that whole team expires after 27 so they have a 2 yr run but an expiring PG probably could be dumped if needed and they would still have plenty of cap.   LAL yes theyd have a ton of cap space if they want but if they resign reeves and anyone else it could eat into the cap space available anyone - i think this would only be a possibility if PG came back and looked very good and LA thought they could win it all this year while having lebron.

But with that your right none are  likely scenarios but I don't really see another team that could would trade for him this year without it being a dump - did I miss anything. In all honesty we had 1 maybe 2 chances if we wanted to dump PG and that was at the trade deadline last year.  GSW had interest in PG in offseason and at deadline and I'm pretty sure we coulda had the  Jimmy Butler deal early on if we wanted it - Morey said they had an offer but it was underwhelming and then Jimmy to Phx fizzled which opened the butler to GSW trade closing the window.  Would I have wanted Wiggins  Slo Mo and the 20th pick last year - I don't know what that is doing to get you better excpet maybe freeing up MLE.  Hawks also reportedly had interest but made other trades - it probably would have been hunter and expirings last year.  I do think there is a small chance you could pull of a trade with Hawks but I doubt you could pull off the 3 teamer I mentioned because of your point but Porzingus doesn't seems to be long for Atl and just an expiring so him as a baseline of a trade to sixers for PG could make some with filler like kennard or risacher but you would think they'd go younger and cheaper first unless too costly.

There are only a couple teams out there where you might have a small chance of getting out of PG neutral or with some small value -  it’s not the Jazz with Lauri who are back on the Lauri should net a massive package train starting out well averaging 28. With that said for anything to happen you would need PG on the court probably for at least a month and looking really good to have a chance

These are the teams I could see justify trading something for PG.

Hawks -  there was interest last year at the deadline from Hawks reportedly,  I could see something like porzingus and rissacher and a pick for PG being something they could.  Porzingus is expiring and I really don’t like Rissacher on is inflated rookie contract but maybe he could be flipped with the pick and something else for a piece we want.  The real get here would be if you could pry away the pelicans pick and trade that back to NOP for Trey Murphy so they could tank but you’d have to probably give clippers pick back to hawks in that case. Hawks also might trade Trae young and if they get something back probably more unlikely.

Lakers - could they go for a last run with LeBron -  you could get mostly expirings - kleber, Vincent, hachimura with Vanderbilt and knecht would get them there with room to sign free agents we can through Broome in for a cheap salary (they are hardcapped) and maybe pry 1st at best case which would be 2031 or 2032-  they would have a starting lineup of doncic reeves pg LeBron ayton which is pretty good if healthy.  We could flip expirings and hopefully Vanderbilt for something better

Long shot but GSW -  they wanted PG before but cap wise it’s much harder to work now - it would have to be like draymond and kuminga and moody or hield .  I don’t think I’d want those pieces tbh and don’t know if they’d trade draymond but everyone is old so pg fits their last shot for Steph timeline.

Besides that I don’t see a scenario where someone would take pg for neutral or positive value - sure places will take him as a dump like Utah and Nets with the hope to also rebuild value and get value later but that only makes any sense if we have the perfect pieces coming back otherwise the flexibility if things go wrong to tank in 28 if needed to keep top 8 protected pick (that turns into 2nds) and have a top 5 pick and another probable top 10 pick (lac) before paying Vj/mccain and with having pg come off books.

Bring back Ben Simmons. Maxey & McCain back court not nba standard defensively. See the difference between Maxey&Vj vs Maxey & McCain in the real game. Need to trade McCain.

At least McCain and Maxey both try - McCain is slow right now and working himself back but he tries.  Was at the game and we had a lead near end of 1st quarter and they brought in Eric Gordon and he literally was so far away from his man he gave up 3 easy 3 pointers in a row to end the 1st quarter tied -  that is what gets me upset.

With that said your not wrong - even at full health VJ is a much better pairing with Maxey or McCain.  Maxey and VJ are not going anywhere - who  and if you trade someone depends on offer and if Grimes is here for the long haul.  There is nothing wrong with Mccain as a backup to Maxey with a little time sharing the court but there isn't that need if grimes fills that role - If Grimes isn't here I'm keeping Mccain if grimes goes or is traded I'd trade him for right offer but also nothing wrong keeping all 4 guards and just limiting time maxey and mccain on together - if you get real value though sure.
