The 5 most consistent NHL goalies this season, and what makes each unique

If there’s one trait NHL coaches desire most from their starting goaltender, it’s consistency.

Having a goalie stand on his head and single-handedly win a game is great, but it’s also rare at the highest level. Knowing a goalie will make the saves he is supposed to make, and play well enough for his team to earn points on a nightly basis, can inspire confidence and elevate the play of the entire team.

Let’s look at the five most consistent goalies in the NHL this season and examine what has allowed them each to play at such a high level for long stretches. To quantify consistency, we’ll be dividing the number of starts each goalie has finished with a save percentage above .900 by their total number of starts.

2. Dan Vladař

(67.5 quality start percentage)

The most surprising name on this list is Dan Vladař in Philadelphia. After spending his first four NHL seasons as a backup in Calgary, the big Czech netminder signed with the Flyers this offseason for a chance to prove he’s more than that, then spent the summer working hard on his lateral movement. That’s typically an area of weakness for goalies his size, but Vladař has been noticeably quicker going side-to-side this season, and the results have been stellar.

Vladař’s improved lateral quickness has led to more highlight-reel saves on back-door passes. His .827 save percentage on high-danger shots around the net is his highest in four years, and his explosion off of his posts has been especially noticeable.

Huh?

No, I know how phrase is used in English language. The more skilled guy is playing poker and the stooge is playing twiddly winks or whatever. Bro, all they have been doing is getting their teeth kicked in

I explained in detail what I meant by poker and your response means you are either retarded or purposely obtuse.  We've reached the point of pearls before swine.

When you say they are playing poker you are giving them a compliment and indicating they are outplaying the US.

 ???

You must be on the spectrum.

In poker the outcome of one hand is 99% luck. However in the long term the more skilled player is 100% to win.

No such thing as 100% in poker.

Iran has neither the chips, the cards, nor the skills.

This is where we disagree and also where my analogy breaks down.

In order for us to win, we need to meet our original objectives (the real objectives which may be different than what has been publicly stated).  For Iran to win, the government just needs to survive.  No idea which is more likely at this point.  And there is still unintended consequences that could muddy any final outcome

Think we are in a quagmire and Iran is playing poker while USA is a bunch of dunces

Wrong.

And you seem to have a problem with the football vs. poker comparison.

In football, the offense pounds away at the defense until they tire and/or make a mistake and allow a score.  If Iran allows enough scores against, they lose.  This is our overall strategy.

In poker, the players don't control the cards they are dealt.  They can bluff, discard and request new cards from the deck but they can't win on their own offensive actions.  They need some luck and help from others.  This is Iran's strategy.  Raise the pot to increase the costs to play and hope the game becomes too rich for our liking.

Iran isn't using asymmetrical warfare because they are smarter but because they have no alternative.

It doesn’t.

Hard to argue with that ironclad argument.   :D

Leave the poor lil guy alone.

You're not in charge and jkay doesn't need your help.

No actually you didn’t, you only said why they probably wouldn’t help. Maybe I need to get out the hand puppets for you but if there is zero downside and only upside to asking there is no reason not to ask.

I'll try this using your tactics:  You don't consider looking weak to be a downside?

And this is what I posted.  Reading comprehension is a recurring problem for you.

We now know that China was one of the countries he asked for help.  What I don't understand is why he thought they would get involved considering that their oil tankers aren't being blocked by Iran.

Well then you need to explain why we wouldn’t ask them then. And why you are demanding an answer from jkay. You are terrible at this btw

jkay put forth the assertion.

And I already explained why we wouldn't ask.  Reading Is Fundamental.

Wasn’t posed to me but you don’t see the value in getting something on the record?

For what purpose?  Please be specific.
