Phillies Board / Thank you Mr. Met
« on: January 21, 2026, 07:10:03 pm »
I was hoping for Bichette as any fan would, but will come right out say this, I'm grateful to the Mess for taking Louis Robert. Why? I think there's a chance we'll see this year. Painter, Crawford (majors) and Miller (AAA) may show why DD was close to throwing the baby out with the bathwater although we don't know how close any kind of trade was. The Mess snatched Bichette, the real prize, but they put a guy in CF who has had one successful half season. He's cheap ($20 million and can't believe I said cheap), Cohen throws that kind of money out for tips, but i'm more happy this club will give these kids a real shot (for now). There is a chance DD can still do something dumb but am hopeful. Fingers crossed. Got a good feeling on at least two of the three and very hopeful about Wood and Escobar (Nos 4 and 5 Prospects). My sleeper isWen-Hui Pen, coming off TJ surgery when a 2024 trip to the AFL was sacked and had surgery late 2024. They say he's healthy. I saw him for Threshers in 2024, he throws up to 99, has a crazy a$$ splitter in the mid 80s and apparently had a swing/miss rate on it at 63% the year I saw him. He rocketed up from A to High A and on his way to AFL when he was derailed.

embiid has given everything to this franchise without much reciprocation from them

if hes hurt its not his fault, he got hurt playing for us trying to win a championship

But i wouldnt put it out of the realm of possibility he reworks his contract.  By all accounts he seems like a good dude that just wants to win, he embarrassed Joshua Harris by paying the Wells Fargo employees when the owners wouldnt during covid.  Apparently acts like that don't get you very far in philly...

Still a low chance but he earned that contract.  If you got a contract like that on a job you got hurt on would you give back half the money?  No you wouldnt... no matter how much money you already have.  Simple as that.

So i think he has to be healthy and back to playing around 60 games a year for any potential discount to occur.  Then again if hes doing that hes worth the money.  Yea its probably not happening and its a very rare thing in sports for a reason.

But then again he doesnt want to go out on a sour note with philly fans so we will see how it plays out.  Right now things are good, lets just ride the wave.

You can check these numbers because even my eyebrows were raised. Not counting the first two seasons that Embiid missed due to injury, Joel Embiid has missed roughly 400 games out of total possible 844 or around 47%. That's a pretty big number. I checked a guy like Giannis and I'm sure can check other stars, but Giannis plays roughly 80 -90% of his games and only the 2022/2023 season stands out where he missed 19 games due to minor injuries. Now, if these numbers are accurate, saying the fans don't appreciate the guy is a BIG stretch when he isn't here half the time, but is paid like he is. There is no argument here.

I think Sixer fans have been appreciative of Embiid's talent. It's when and how he uses it that sometimes begs the question. Many say he is injury prone or the injuries are not his fault and there is some truth to that. But, rather than say he is unlucky with injuries I believe his play is more reckless than not. He usually plays a good part of the game falling on the floor. How much of this can be avoided? I don't know. He also has had a strong tendency to get injured in the post season. I don't remember him ever playing a complete post season series without sitting out a game or 2. I can't be 100% accurate but most fans will understand the inference. But, fans do appreciate him, when he plays.

This is the type of passion I wanna see from Maxey.  Take charge.  Kyle agrees as well.  As well as coach, cuz he looks and keeps on coaching the others!  And ya know if Maxey is on ur @$$, it's for a reason.  Kid is too chipper and upbeat...to let loose like that.  This also shows that both players CARE...(unlike Agholor).

I didn't catch the game but saw the boxscore where Maxey finally started to hit some shots, although the 3 is still absent. He's got to light it up. He's due to go on tear imo. His shooting has been in a slump.

Always a fan of his play when he was on the court, but that wasn't much the last few years. Don't think we'll be seeing Jimmy for a while and his career could be done, but they still owe him $54 million for '26-'27. That's enough motivation for me to rehab well.

CB, your dream of the Philadelphia Blue Devils is admirable, but never happening.

This team is a few tweaks away from being a favorite to win the East.

PG and Embiid will be Sixers for at least the next 1.5 seasons.

I still vote with Mayock, but I fear you're right. By this time, neither one will be doing anything inspiring. They just are not going to age gracefully. Morey needs to be euthenized.

Eagles Forum / Re: Did cutting/trading CJGJ cost us a title?
« on: January 20, 2026, 08:22:32 am »
The move was clearly made for personal reasons.

And that person was Fangio, he simply didn't like CJ.

Problem is, CJ was a good safety.  Not a perfect safety, but a big upgrade over the slop we had this year.

By cutting him it forced us to reach for Mukuba in the draft, instead of taking the more logical pikc, Fannin.

Football is a game of inches, and if we had had Fannin and CJGJ in the playoffs instead of an injured Mukuba and the slop we had at safety, I really think we'd be in the NFC title game next week.

Or then again, we could have been there had we started Jihaad over Dean, another bizarre Fangio move.

We all know Patullo is a stunod, but Fangio is supposed to be the smart adult in the room.  Did Vic "Philly gawn Philly" it on this one as well?

And Howie, brother, you can't let your coaches force you into making bad moves.

the secondary may  be a place toimprove, but defense wasn't the issue and didn't lose games or title.

With technological advances, the officials have really good chances to get the calls right especially on change of possession. One thing you can't change is a poor decision to not review it closely as replays clearly show it was an incomplete pass and changed the outcome. This shouldn't happen to any team. Referees cannot have this type of autonomy. Officiating IMO this year, knowing you have great technology to review, was unacceptable for any team and they need to clean house for top officials.

I seen 2 different reports that teams have called about Jared McCain. I really think they have to look into this.

McCain hasn't found his footing since being back. They won't get value and being a shooting team, they should see if he comes back in tow with his shot. He's terrible right now and it's only a matter of time. He's so much better than what he's showing. I would keep him becuase you aren't finding a guard who can put up 20 night in or night out. He can do this. Especially if one of our guards goes down.

Phillies Board / Re: 2027 CBA: Hard Cap?
« on: January 17, 2026, 10:16:02 am »
A hard Cap will only lead to more expansion of the League.

That's entirely possible. Attendance is up as are value of TV deals and expansion brings in a few billion in franchise fees. However, I don't think it's assumed that the projected increase in franchise values will continue at the current rate if they expand. I get it but not sure how much talent is available to fund/fillout reasonable rosters for 2 more teams. Of course, that never stopped them before. Just relocate.

dodgers are the ones who want a cap, thats why they are doing what they are doing....

Given their income streams I understand a cap would bring billions of profits over time to LA, but I am not sure they are doing this to create a cap. In pure money, certainly it brings a lot but you will see titles change hands from then on out. They will go back to older times.

Given what has happened with Tucker, top FA again going to the Dodgers for $60 million a year and Bichette to Mets, for over $40, will fans welcome a lockout in 2027. Welcome or not, it's coming. The disparity created by Dodgers is too great to ignore. IMO.

#3 ranked international prospect in this class

Cannot get excited over a 16 or 17 yo. Jhalyn Ortiz was also a million dollar bonus most ever etc. Never got to triple a, did he? Spent years in the minors. And then you have a $45,000 signee who hits it out of the park in two years. DON't trust this draft at all.

if true way more than fair.

This advice and holding out reminds me of the tragedy for the Ryan Madsen holdout, he got injured and missed out on millions. Not worth it especially turning 35 as a catcher.

I don't know where JT's head is. He's going to be 35 in a month or two, his offense ranks in the bottom for qualifying catchers as does his pitch framing, and he could join a WS contender (especially if they sign Bichette) and go out/retire in style playing for the best fan base in baseball which is a lot more fun than many of the teams. Where is his head? What is his problem? The guy has made a mint and he's relatively healthy with no major injuries per se. His agent needs to have his head examined.
