Sixers Forum / Re: Broome
« on: December 15, 2025, 11:12:46 am »
Considering that I correctly picked Broome as the 2nd round pick... I believe that I should defend the guy... And it really is not that hard to do... If I'm being 100% honest, the majority of you all said the same BS about McCain just weeks ago... Even today, most still want to throw him in trades lol...

You guys act as if Broome is in the rotation... He has played in 6 games all year. 28% of the season is already gone... Add that same number of 6, being his minutes being played. How do you judge someone off of 6 games and 6 minutes?

If you did not know, Barlow gets 26.3 MPG... Watford 20.4 MPG... Walker 13.7 MPG... And considering Walker gets 13.7 MPG, why is it Broome in his over half the minutes less gets 2.2 RPG to Walker's 3.5 RPG...

Broome was always the 4th option... Watford is on a TEAM OPTION... Barlow and Walker we all know the story... Broome is on a 4 year contract... And he can take the time to develop...

I have made it clear that Grimes is only doing what he is doing because of contract... I made the same claim with Drummond and Oubre... I made the same claim with all these 3 PF's ahead of Broome... They are looking for contracts as well... And speak the truth, Broome never got a chance to get the minutes that these guys have... When Walker was stinking up the joint, he still got minutes... To hate on a guy who only played in 6 games and 6 minutes is? Well Philadelphia...

Is it possible that you were just wrong on Broome?

Nurse is making it clear that Maxey and McCain will get tons of minutes together.

Buckle up for some world class small ball.

No doubt.  We aren’t really playing for anything this season so now is a good time to see if they can share the court together.  I’m still skeptical of how it will work defensively but man, those two create a ton of bad situations for the D with their shooting.

The last 3 games, McCain has 15, 15, and 20 points... Many have given McCain a tough time, ignoring the fact that he has not played since his injury last season... Of course he is going to look slow and sluggish... I hoped the 5 steals tonight proved that theory false... After a rough start, he is getting close to being 100% back to what we all saw last year... Which at the time, I thought, why not a 20 ppg player in this league...

During those last 3 games... He has shot 75%, 40%, and 40% from 3-point range... 5 out of 6 from the free throw line... The biggest difference, MINUTES... 26, 25, and tonight 29 minutes... And for the too small guys... McCain was a TEAM HIGH +18 on the floor...

It's going to be very interesting when VJ Edgecombe comes back... Will he go back to the starting lineup? Or will they pair him off the bench with McCain? If he goes back as a starter... How does a McCain and Grimes bench backcourt work... I just see 2 guys doing the same thing... All that I know, 5 more turnovers for Grimes... It's not pretty... FYI, ZERO TURNOVERS FOR MCCAIN... I believe, in the end I will be right in this... And that McCain will be a long-term Sixers player... And in no way am I trading him... Maxey, VJ, and McCain will be our guards for some time to come...

McCain is getting back to the point where I think all of his shots are going in when he lets it go.  He’s starting to get to the rim a bit too.  He’s definitely rounding into shape.  I’ve been encouraged by the time he’s been on the court with Maxey.  I’m one of those guys that thought it would be a disaster defensively but it hasn’t been as exploited as I thought it would.  Would need to check the numbers to confirm the eye test.  I think you still go with VJ as the starter when he’s healthy.  Maxey should be at 36 MPG when everyone is healthy.  McCain is more than capable of keeping the offense rolling when Maxey goes to the bench.

I will repeat what I have said many times. STOP BUILDING AROUND JOEL EMBIID... I couldn't care less about a successful season or playoff success if it does not win us a CHAMPIONSHIP... It's CHAMPIONSHIP OR BUST... Joel Embiid and Paul George are not long-term solutions... He was brought in to win a championship...

It's easy how you make it work... Get rid of Joel Embiid and Paul George and start over with what we do have that is working... And that is Maxey and VJ...

Ok, you’ve set your parameters.
It’s been 35 years since a NBA champion started a backcourt with both players listed under 6’3” (Pistons ‘90).
For the sake of this discussion let’s disregard the other variables you mentioned.
Why would you set your foundation with a prototype that hasn’t been able to reach your stated goal in over 3 decades?  Besides being from Duke, what makes McCain special enough to help buck that trend?

Again, how do the Cavs make it work with 2 guys under 6'3... Oh wait, they have real size at PF and C... Not playing a guard sized Tucker at PF and a small PF playing Center smh... Where is the analytics in that...
[/b][/color]

What is your idea of making it work?  A successful regular season or playoff success?
For all their regular season success they haven’t made it past the second round with the likkle backcourt.
Thomas/Dumars was almost 30 years ago.
Maybe you play some zone when they share the court, maybe you pick up full court to limit the time they can hunt our guys in the half court.  Maybe the offense would be so efficient you could just outscore teams during their shared minutes.
I want to give it a look see before anyone is moved but I think there would be a ton of Huerter/Curry flashbacks with that small of a backcourt.

Embid and George are THE GLASS BROTHERS.

IS, just letting you know I’m stealing this one.

I put sitting Embiid out the whole year at a very very low percentage but if he did it might be the one way out of his contract if he really can’t medically go on.  You’d have to wait 1 year after his last game played to apply which is in late February.  Embiid would have to be evaluated by an independent doctor who would have to validate he can’t go on which would be the toughest part but if approved his contract would be wiped off our salary cap books (but embiid would still be paid).

Only way I see Embiid sitting all year is if career is over and he is officially done and this is the play but they can do all that and the independent doctor deny the claim.  If Embiid sits all year though without another procedure he is practically done anyway and medical retirement makes sense. Technically if he got healthy again and came back he’d be able to reinstate but I put all of this at a huge long shot.  With Embiid if his knee is really F’d this might the logical path but if he is not done and plays this option is off the table as playing a game resets the 1 yr clock.   If he plays you’ll want to see him play as much as possible and be healthy but if he is at full health again it wouldn’t make sense to trade.

For the sake of this conversation, let’s take the optimistic view.  If he’s healthy we do have enough talent to make a run this season, especially in the east.
Oubre & Drum’s contracts should be able to get a decent depth piece, preferably a 3/4.  For all his faults, Morey has hit on the margins so I’m interested to see what Watford & Walker are able to contribute at PF.   If those guys hit and Biid can stay healthy, I like our chances.

Biid
Watford
PG
Grimes
Maxey

Bench
McCain
VJ
Oubre
Edwards
Bona
Walker

(BIG) If they can stay healthy that’s a nice 11 man rotation.

Funny, I had a thread sitting for weeks on another tab lol... And this was it...

My 2025-26 Sixers Vision Board...

2. Sixers sit Joel Embiid for the entire season...

7. Trade Joel Embiid next summer (unless Joel demands a trade and wants out sooner at the deadline)...

My 2025-26 Vision Board...

If Joel doesn’t play in 25-26, presumably because of injury, how many draft picks do you think it will take for another team to do the unthinkable and trade for his contract?  How do you propose we rebuild without those draft picks??  You should be PRAYING Biid plays 55+ games this season.  That’s the only chance we have of getting off that contract after this season.

Condolences to you & your family bro.

A famous former college bball coach said that VJ had the ability to take over games with his dribble, and was held back at Baylor by the system they ran.

We'll find out soon if that was true.

VJ has a similar profile coming out of college as Jaylen Brown.  Even wore the same#.  Uber athletic with questions about his handle & jump shot.  By all accounts, VJ has the desire & work ethic to reach his ceiling.  I’d love to see him turn into our version of JB.

Bucks waive and stretch Dame to sign Myles Turner to a 4/107 contract.

Interesting.

I didn’t see that one coming from anywhere.  Feel bad for Indy and curious to see the other moves Milwaukee will make.  Ish just got real interesting.

I'll own up to hating the McCain pick.

But I'm not sure a 6'2 Kyle Korver is gonna be a needle mover in the modern game.

I do like his personality.

I was wrong too, I wanted Knecht.  Didn’t feel good about the team’s defense with (2) 6’2” starting guards.  Seems Morey shares that concern after trading for Grimes & drafting VJ.
PS — I think he has way more to his game than Korver.  You can see that he puts in major time on his game.  My only issue with McCain is Maxey.  It’s worked before (most recently with Toronto w/Lowry & VanVleet) but just not ideal.

He is smart, he wants us to blow everything up, tank another 3-4 seasons, and pray that we load up on Duke players in that time.

Cause that was evidently where Process 1.0 went wrong.  We took Embiid instead of Jabari Parker, Simmons instead of Ingram, Fultz instead of Tatum (this one was actual mistake lol).

From C4L’s POV, Grimes is the human roadblock to McCain’s ride to the HOF.  As you know, he got it right on McCain in the draft when we all had it wrong, lol…..

For now I give em a B-.  Hoped we could get something else of value instead of just picking at 3.  Not sure who was willing to move up for the price it would’ve cost and the guys they’d draft at 3.  VJ in a vacuum is someone I can get behind.  Humble, athletic and loves to work.
Broome I didn’t want, especially with the guys on the board.  I thought Raynard had more positional versatility and I thought the kid from Arkansas is the type of athlete we currently lack on the wing (Council stinx).  Open minded enough to see if Broome can be a poor man’s Demarcus Cousins (without the PR level fan disrespect) for us.

Raynaud or Thiero needs to be the pick.
