Brett hasn't gotten a single interview for a head coaching job since we fired him.

Despite being Pop's assistant for nearly 20 years, he wasn't even really considered for even a part time replacment for Pops.

as far as we BOTH know Brown is perfectly happy being an assistant in San Antonio.

your problem is u completely discount his value - his man management skills were outstanding. yes Jimmy wasnt happy but we all know Jimmy was ALWAYS going to Miami and has now burned every coach he has had in the NBA

the fact is that he is the ONLY coach who ever got value out of Ben Simmons
not to mention how well Embiid played under him

but u r a hater and u do what haters do
and u NEVER acknowledge u r ever wrong

Sixers Forum / Re: Predict your opening and closing day starting 5s

I predict an opening day starting 5 of:

Maxey
Grimes
Edgecombe
Broome
Embiid

I predict a closing day starting 5 of:

Maxey
Edgecombe
George
Broome
Embiid

I'm assuming that Quentin takes the one year tender, and that PG isn't fully cleared to play by opening night.

I don't think PG gets fully cleared by opening day.  I think Broome absolutely kills it in his place, and that VJ outshines Quentin.

And since I'm not mentally retarded, I don't actually believe that Embiid's knee is structurally shot.  Inflammation sucks, as do all the Philly fans and pundits who've been disrespecting Embiid since we got him.

But Joel is IMO a warrior at heart.  I don't think he'll punt another season out of spite.  But he will continue taking shots at his haters.  The gloves in that sense are fully off.

I , on the other hand, assume Grimes is signed to a three or four year $54 m contract

and though i am NOT mentally retarded I fully expect BOTH PG and Embiid to not be ready by the start of the season

and disappointingly i expect Nurse to go with the veteran Drummond at least at the start of the season

and i would LOVE Broome to end up the PF but I dont think thats particularly realistic

I predict an opening day starting 5 of:

Maxey
Grimes
Oubre
Watford
Drummond

I predict a closing day starting 5 of:

Maxey
Grimes
Edgecombe
George
Embiid

Nah come on Jr.  he didn’t hand thybulle a dunk.  Ben was right under the basket with the only person near him being nearly a foot shorter.  He gave up a dunk and instead passed it off to another player who then had 2 people between him and the basket.

Ben choked cause he was afraid of having to go to the foul line. He was in his own head and has been that way ever since.  Afraid to go to the line.

I just never saw it that way

like all of us I have watched it 20 times

I see an instinctive pass to matisse - not fear from Ben but just overpassing
it was  a bad habit he got into - passing too much when a decent shot was available for himslef

I bring it up because if Ben throws down that shot none of this would need to be written.

I have never accepted this

Ben was always a pass first player. always. he handed thybulle a dunk. i almost guarantee that Ben would say he would do that same pass even knowing wat happened next

its how he plays. an assist is worth more than a layup

If Broome isn't ready next season, he'll never be ready.

That's the calculus behind drafting unathletic 23 year 5 year collegiates.

Morey can't predict how healthy a player will be, or how a coach will use said player.

But I'm confident in his eye for talent.

yeah thats just more bullshit NBA "wisdom"

yes u expect a 23 year old to be ready to contribute right away whilst a 19 year old has time

and Broome will contribute right away

but 23 years olds also can improve once they make the nba and are NOT a finished product just because they are older

so, NO, "If Broome isn't ready next season, he'll never be ready." is nonsense.

if it takes him a season or two to go from 3rd or 4th string center to starting power forward at 25 then no one will call this a failure becasue he wasnt good enough in his rookie season

If Embiid is choosing to not play through discomfort because he feels disrespected by the organization, media and fans, that is by definition a mental breakdown.

I don't blame him for giving in to his personal anger.  I would have done the same, likely more.

thats NOT how I read it

I read it as -  he feels disrespected by the organization, media and fans, BECAUSE he knew he wasnt healed but he was either pressured by management, or management didnt work hard enough to save him from himself and shut him down earlier

I totally disagree with media speculation that now the relationship with management is beyond saving

in fact embiids statements show me that he will never trust anyone and he has accepted the FO moves for now

With Reed we now have 3 years of rock solid analytics that tell us that he's a functionally useful role player, no matter how you use him really.

With Bolden, he was released much in the same way Christian Wood Isaiah Joe were released by us.  But when Bolden was released Covid lockdowns occurred, which made it hard for any player in his position to get that crucial second chance that Wood and Joe got.

Reed has some nba skills but not enough to separate him from a very limited role - defensive backup big when no offense is required and the match up is NOT a huge center

Wood didnt have the finish he has shown in limited opportunities and he didnt develop them until another few years after Sixers rejected him

and Bolden was correctly assessed as being too limited on offense AND not significantly valuable on D

Joe was assumed to have too long to go to become the 3 pt shooter he is now but that assessment was incorrect

Broome has real limitations but like any rookie it takes some time to adjust to summer league etc

he can shoot from outside but not enough - he will need to improve
he can rebound but not quite good enough - he will need to improve
he can pass but not elite - he will need to improve
he can defend and block shots - u guessed it - he still needs work

Broome CAN become a functional decent role player or even better
but he will need to work and continue to grow his game to achieve that - he certainly is NOT a finished product ready to contribute at a  really high level but he has the building blocks to be a contributor

I don't see Flagg being Durant's equal as a straight up shooter.

eh
so he isnt as good as possibly the greatest scorer in recent nba history?

he can still be extraordinarily good

Those 3 months I spent in Philly as a newborn infant made me as American as fresh apple pie, and as Philly as a cheesesteak dipped in Jimmies.

respectfully I believe its whether or not you are able to obtain a US passport?

Having said that, my father was born in New Orleans and moved to Australia soon after but ultimately was NOT able to have a US passport

but US law is certainly not my area of expertise

Injury is the only thing that goofs up my predictions.

Had Embiid and Simmons stayed healthy, both would have multiple rings on their fingers right now, and Doc's ego would be 1000% bigger.

What I underestimated in both cases was how much of a lingering effect Brett's coaching had on both of them, both physically and mentally.

whoa

OK

so the ONLY coach that ever got ben simmons to play, the ONLY coach that coached him to all-NBA and all-star status - THATS the coach that ruined him????

umm, just out of interest, what was the part of Bretts coaching that ruined ben both physically and mentally?
i would be fascinated to know

no insults
U do such a fabulous job of identifying your own shortcomings that nothing more needs be said

Funny, I could have sworn that I was getting a mountain of hate for telling Phillies fans that Ruben Amaro was driving the Phillies into the dark ages and telling Eagle fans that Chip-o-mania was empty hype that was doomed to crash and burn.

I also recall calling Brett Brown a mildly retarded head coach who was gonna have Joel Embiid in a wheelchair by 30...

yeah because you - and ONLY you - think standing at the 3 point line shooting set shots puts more stress on your body than banging in the post with 300 lb centers SMH

Another year of small ball. Heard.

maybe
Morey expects drummond and embiid to both play
power forward will get bigger if Walker and/or barlow can contribute
even better if Broome can play some there
VJ and Grimes as  2 guards are big
as small forwards they are not

so, we might be big, we might be small, or we might be somewhere in between

my gut agrees with you
likely see some Bona at C and VJ/grimes at the SF, so relatively small

yeah i think the hope is that they can package gordon drummond etc and something else at the deadline and open up spots and maybe get something of some value?

my hope is jabari walker AND barlow

maxey, grimes, embiid, PG, Oubre
Mccain, VJ, Drummond, Watford, Edwards
Lowry, Gordon, Bona, Council, Broome

I think they resign Grimes, keep council until he is dumped and eventually walker - if he performs - gets a contract

OK

I havent read most of this thread but that wont stop me having an opinion

Flagg doesnt really have one overwhelming skill - he appears to be  good at almost everything but nothing in particular

I am a little concerned that he knows a lot of tricks already which puts him ahead of his peers but doesnt suggest as much improvement in him

BUT

my gut is that he WILL develop some elite skills

an automatic outside shot
some go to moves that demand a double
DPOY quality defense
elite passing

he isnt that yet
but I think he will be
