Hersey Hawkins was an All Star his 3rd year in the league, putting up numbers that relative to the era were as good if not better than Maxey's this season.

Hersey never made another All Star team again, largely due to the Sixers never being more than just an average team going forward.

Lol yeah had nothing to do with him scoring in the teens for most of his career and only having 1 more season where he was a top 20 scorer…..

Like I said, it’s going to be hilarious to revisit this post in 5 years

unless i'm misunderstanding, the only difference is you get a year of play for 15 plus 20m next year cap hit vs just the 20 m cap hit

The way Reddick's contract is set up, he currently has 3 void years attached to the end of his deal (which ends this season).  If his contract isn't extended prior to him hitting free agency, then the protated money in those 3 years gets accelerated to next years cap as dead money (in the amount of ~ $15 mil).   His cap value this season if he's on the team is ~ $22 mil.

So if he plays this year and doesn't get a contract extension, he has a cap value of $22 mil this year, for playing for us, and then next year we have to account $15 mil of dead money while he plays somewhere else.

If we cut or trade him this year, then we incur ~ $20.5 mil of dead money this year, all while he plays elsewhere.  But then he's off the books next year.
If we were in a rebuilding mode, sure trade him and get what you can get back and then he's off the books for next season.

But since we're not in a rebuilding mode and Howie clearly thinks this team can compete for a superbowl this year, it makes no sense to have $20 mil of dead cap on the books this year for a guy who isn't playing for you who oh yeah also happens to be the best DE/OLB on the team.

I'm sure the Eagles have offered him a contract extension, but he's trying to see if he can get better elsewhere.

As I said before, the long term cap hit on Redick playing just one season is 36 million versus 20 if we cut or trade him now.

Howie didn't pay 50 million to Huff just to have him play 10-20 reps a game from the edges.

The tape from late last year shows Smith playing almost as much inside as on the edges.  Even if that's the long term plan for him, it still makes more sense to trade Haasan for what we can get and draft another edge rusher to back up Sweat and Huff.

Yes, you've said that before.  And if we weren't going all in on a superbowl this year and were playing for the future instead, it would have merit. But you don't make the moves we just made and then turn around and trade away your best DE/OLB for a mid round draft pick with the ONLY benefit being saving some cap space the following year.  That makes no sense.

Now, if Reddick turns this into a holdout situation or you think he's going to be a problem in the lockerroom, then that's a different story.  But so far that does not seem to be the case.

"Howie didn't pay 50 million to Huff just to have him play 10-20 reps a game from the edges."
Where did I say he did?   That's a strawman argument.  I already laid out theoretical snap counts for our 5 DE/OLBs.  There's plenty of snaps to go around.

Without Embiid we're 13-25.

I wouldn't be bothering with this debate if it was 18-20 instead.

The Magic went 21-61 with Tracy McGrady leading the league in scoring in 03-04.  So by your logic he wasn't a star that year then.  That's your argument right?

Look at Hersey's numbers and accomplishments his first 3 years, and then the next 10.

LOL so since Hersey Hawkins didn't become a perennial all star that somehow has an implication on what Maxey will become?  LOL what????

A star has to be able to carry a team to a 500 record.

So then just for the record:
In the 05-06 season, when Allen Iverson averaged 33 ppg on 45% shooting, he actually wasn't a star player that year since the Sixers went 38-44.

In the 03-04 season, when Tracy McGrady lead the league in scoring at 28 ppg on 42% shooting, he wasn't a star that year since the Magic went 21-61.   And yet the next year in Houston led the Rockets to a 51-31 record.  It's almost like the problem wasn't McGrady but rather his surrounding cast....

And what you're also saying is that Vince Carter, from the 01-02 season to the 03-04 season wasn't a star as the Raptors had a losing record with him.   And then in 04-05 was slightly a star as they went 40-37 in his games, and then in 05-06 was REALLY a star again when he got to the Nets and they went 49-30.

Got it...

A star has to be able to carry a team to a 500 record.

Maxey can't do that or effectively run point against a press defense.

He's a very good shooting guard.  A modern day Hersey Hawkins.  Nobody with any sense regarded Hawkins a true star, even if he was able to put up star like numbers from time to time.

Sure if that team actually has other quality starters on it.  We don't have that.  Tobias Harris SHOULD be that guy but he's been way too inconsistent.  The rest of the guys are all backup/rotational players.

" A modern day Hersey Hawkins.  Nobody with any sense regarded Hawkins a true star, even if he was able to put up star like numbers from time to time."
LOL.  By "put up star like numbers from time to time" do you mean the ONE season out of his 13 years where he was a top 15 scorer in the league?

This post will be hilarious to revisit 5 years from now after Maxey has another 3 or 4 all star years to his name....

There are superstars, stars and role players.

What we've found out in Embiid's absence is that we only had a superstar and a bunch of role players at the start of this season.

lol at calling Maxey a role player.  never change Kruk, never change....

The price on Reddick is reportedly a 2nd round pick.

Whoever gets Reddick will owe him his 14 million base for 2024.

Maybe a 5 million dollar discount of his open market value.

Not worth a 2nd round pick, especially in view of his robust extension demands.

If Howie is serious about moving him a 2024 4th and conditional 2025 3rd is more realistic.

I don't think Howie is serious about moving him.  There's no reason to.  Howie is clearly going all in this year trying to win a superbowl.  It makes absolutely no sense to then turn around and make the team worse by trading away your best edge rusher for draft picks, let alone mid round picks.

“ 1.  White players are inherently smarter than black players (the choice of most Philly meatpackers), or

2.  A systemic bias that favors giving former white players a chance.”

No, those are not the only two possibilities.  But that’s certainly what someone who is only capable of performing single variable analysis would say are the only two possibilities.

“Now if Kelce's new job were constrained to him getting drunk acting like a @ackass while shirtless during tailgates, I might take back my statement.

But from the looks of it he's gonna be wearing a suit and tie and attempting to provide actual insight.”

Lololol it’s so funny how much it pains you to admit that he’s an interesting, entertaining well spoken individual.

Last I checked, he doesn’t get drunk and run around shirtless on his podcast, and yet it’s one of the most popular podcasts out there.  Last I checked, his documentary wasn’t just him running around without a shirt on getting drunk and yet it was the most watched Amazon documentary ever.

I never said he wouldn't get a chance, between Taylormania and him being white it's a near guarantee he would.

But will he actually deliver on the opportunity?

LOLOLOLOL.  I am shocked that you would play the race card, just shocked I tell you…

He’s already proven he can deliver. He has one of the most popular podcasts out there.  That’s what’s driving all the interest from the networks.  He’s already proven to be a good on air personality who gets people to watch.  Hence why multiple networks are trying to get him to sign with them.

Outside of making a fool of himself, he doesn't have much of a post football future if we're to be honest.

The Kelce podcast will fade into oblivion five minutes into Travis and Swift's inevitable breakup.

Looks like there’s currently a bidding war for Jason’s services between ESPN, NBC, and Prime.  Jason thanks you for your Kruk jinxing service.

Brown's 5/105 contract was in reality 1/5+4/100, which Brown being forwarded bonus money from the 4/100.

If Brown had been a free agent he'd have likely commanded 5/125.

Howie paid the 1st for that 20 million dollar discount.

Howie paid the first round pick because AJ Brown was a 25 year old receiver who many believed was a top receiver in the league who’s production was skewed due to playing in a run heavy offense where he didn’t get the amount of targets other top receivers get.

Howie gave him a 4 year $100 million contract extension.  Saying he would have received a 5 year $125 million extension had he been 2 years older and been a free agent doesn’t really make sense.  Also, that’s not a discount as that 5th year of $25 million would have had no guaranteed money in it.  Its essentially a team option at that point and Brown’s agent would be stupid to tack on an extra non-guaranteed year which gives the team control and would make brown have to wait an extra year to hit free agency for his next contract.

You give up draft capital when there's a financial discount to be had.

With AJ Brown it was his 5 million dollar salary for the 5th year of his rookie contract.

Howie saw that as a 15-20 million dollar discount, and was happy to fork over a 1st.

Not sure what you mean.  When we traded for Brown we immediately gave him a new contract.  And he was in his 4th year of the league at the time.  Not sure what $15-20 million discount you are referring to.

Howie was willing to give up a first round pick for Brown because he rightly projected brown to be a top 10, arguably top 5 receiver in the league and was only 25 years old.

Sneed will demand a huge contract from the Titans soon if not right away.

That was part of the trade.  4 years $76 million with $55 mil guaranteed.  The Chiefs had placed the non-exclusive tag on Snead which meant he could negotiate a contract with another team and then the team work out compensation with the Chiefs.
